This issue focuses on nonverbal skills and the influence this "silent" communication has on our interactions.

It is my hope that this information will be helpful to you. Our communication can affect our "bottom line". Making communication a business priority is in all of our interests.

Nonverbal Communication Says a Lot


When the question, "What do you think of when you hear the word communication?", is asked, usually the first or second response is "speaking". Of course that is an important component, but the area of nonverbal communication, research indicates, is more "telling" of our thoughts than the actual words that we speak. Nonverbal communication is a very crucial
but often neglected area.
The components of nonverbal communication, eye contact, facial expressions, posture, arm and hand gestures as well as head position are extremely vital. Even though, we typically only focus

 

     

      Nonverbal Communication Says a Lot


  • Be aware of the powerful influence that nonverbal   communication has on your interactions.
  • Learn the meanings and use various nonverbal "signals", i.e. personal energy, eye contact, facial expressions, body language, vocal tone, intonation etc., to enhance your messages. 
  • Be very cognizant of your use of body language. 
  • Use appropriate body language that aligns with your message so others will "see" it as congruent and not confusing. 
  • Learn to read others' nonverbal "signals".  This can be very helpful to understand the "deeper" meaning.
