Greetings!
With the holidays upon us, and the end of December fast approaching, may we suggest that you consider supporting the work of the Mid-Del Public Schools Foundation with a year-end gift? Your donation of $10, $25, $50 or more will help us provide more to Mid-Del teachers and students in the coming year - like the grant you see profiled below. Music History Rings Out at Parkview
"I think art and music go together and help you have a creative mind," relates Sydney Joiner, fifth-grade Parkview Elementary student. She and Sydney Petersen - the "Two Sydneys" - are two of music teacher Linda Sharp's fifth-grade students.
This year, thanks to a Mid-Del Schools Foundation grant, the "Two Sydneys," along with their classmates, are enjoying an in-depth exploration of music history, learning about the Baroque, Classical, and twentieth-century periods.
Not content with students just reading books about an art form as old as speech, Ms. Sharp has the students exploring music through the written word, listening, and creating. The first few months of the school year were spent helping students master the fundamentals of guitars . . . Click here for more

School Libraries Receive Foundation Grants
On December 9, the Foundation did some giving of its own - $22,000 worth! Board members made a surprise visit to a meeting of Mid-Del school librarians to notify each of the amount their library/media center would receive from the Foundation this year.
With deep funding cuts to public education this year, the District has had to take many cost-saving measures. These have included cutting the 2010-11 budgets for school libraries and media centers to zero. Librarians have had no Board of Education funding to purchase books, educational media, or other supplies.
With the Foundation grants, school libraries will be able to cover some basics that they would have had to do without. "We are delighted to further the work of our school libraries," said Board President Sherri Miller. "When Mid-Del Schools are coming under tremendous budget pressures, we feel it is important to be supporting all 25 elementary, middle and high schools. We also recognize that libraries have the potential to reach every student in the the school, and that makes this funding decision all the more rewarding."

Because the year is drawing to a close, and end-of-year giving is important to many individuals for tax purposes, we'll be sending three, very short reminders toward the end of December about ways to donate to the Mid-Del Public Schools Foundation. If you're not interested in those - we ask for your patience!
Happy Holidays,
Sundra Flansburg Executive Director, Mid-Del Public Schools Foundation
P.S. If you're not able to support us financially, I hope you'll consider forwarding this email to others - just use the "Forward email" button below.
P.S.S. Our office will be closed for the holidays from December 20 to January 3. For tax purposes, your gift will count as a deduction for 2010 taxes if the check is dated and envelope postmarked by December 31, or if your donation is made online by midnight on December 31.
