Effective Behavioral & Instructional Support Systems
Back Issue: EBISS # 8 June 2011

Greetings!

2010-2011 has been a big year in Oregon and across the country for education. As budgets fluctuate, the vision and mission your team has created over the last few years will carry you through these lean times. Now that you have this EBISS model in place, you're doing more with less. Even when the participants change, the roles that you've established on your EBISS district team stay the same. Now is a good time to maintain your current systems - not to introduce big changes. Your implementation efforts of PBIS and Academic RTI will continue to benefit students.

Many thanks for your team's dedication to the success of your students.

With appreciation,

Erin Chaparro, Ph.D.

EBISS Director

P.S. On Monday June 13 we'll give you details of how we can continue to support your EBISS district team. Register to receive the details by clicking here

EBISS Updates

After 4+ terrific years the EBISS grant is now at an end.

However, thanks to some creative financing from ODE we will be able to carry a skeleton crew and offer you what we endearingly like to call "EBISS Lite".

Erin Chaparro and Kathleen Jackson will continue to carry the torch for all of the grant-funded EBISS districts while Louise Bronaugh, Kim Hosford, Marianne Oakes, and Pam Zinn will work beyond the grant encouraging other Oregon schools and districts to access and pursue the EBISS tools and framework.
Re-assignments of EBISS districts to either Erin or Kathleen will occur before the new school year begins.

Many thanks to all of our EBISS State Coordinators (past and present) who helped to make this program a success!

Finally, don't miss our end-of-the-year webinar which will include information about some unexpected new funding for districts AND the roll-out of the much anticipated Systems Coach Manual.  The webinar will be held on Monday, June 13th from 3PM - 4PM.  Click here to register.

Behavior Tools

Bully prevention is an important topic that has recently been featured in the popular press.  Did you know that by implementing school wide positive behavior supports (SW PBIS) you already have a strong bully prevention program in place?  Click here to get the facts that tie these two things together. Include these in your next parent newsletter, or add the information to your school website. Let your community know that you are already using an effective bully prevention program for students.

Using EBISS Funds
Please remember that any remaining district EBISS subgrant funds may be used until September 30, 2011.  This means that any goods purchased or services received to support EBISS work must occur by September 30, 2011.  If districts are involved in EBISS related work this summer, their 2010-2011 funds can support those efforts.

If you have any questions about the EBISS subgrants or EBISS claims, please contact Martha Buenrostro at ODE.
