Greetings!
The crazy last few weeks of school have arrived! Thank you to everyone who has entered (or sent in) your DSSP or ISSP. We appreciate that this is a very busy time for you, and are grateful because it allows us to wrap up on our end too.
It has been another terrific year with progress being made across all of the EBISS districts and Early Childhood sites. We have enjoyed working with you and are looking forward to continuing these relationships in the fall, for the final year of the EBISS grant.
This fall there will be a few changes among the state coordinators, most notably Dr. Moira McKenna taking maternity leave. We will all miss her but take comfort in knowing that she will be back within the year. In the meantime, our able and talented colleague, Kim Hosford will be handling the Southern Oregon EBISS districts.
With Best Wishes to You and Yours For a Relaxing Summer,
Your EBISS State Coordinators

We will be adding to this site throughout the summer months so that it will be ready for your use when you return in the fall. The EBISS Google calendar is embedded on this site for your easy access (you'll need to scroll down to see it), and past newsletters will be posted for your reference. You will also find links to deliverables and Webinars that provide information specific to EBISS districts and Early Childhood sites. Look for more information about this great new tool in September.

Spend A Few Days This Summer Attending a free Oregon K-12 Literacy Training.
The Oregon Department of
Education has now released their much anticipated K-12 Literacy Framework. It's an
amazing, informative, and detailed map that shows the route that
districts and schools should take to get all students reading at grade
level. Don't miss this great resource that is now available online. You will find more information about the K-12 literacy framework including multiple options for free trainings from 7 local ESDs this summer by clicking here.

EBISS State Coordinators Become T.I.P.S. Trainers
Several of our EBISS State Coordinators recently attended an outstanding T.I.P.S. training of trainers at Lane ESD. T.I.P.S. stands for Team Initiated Problem Solving and provides a very clear framework for holding efficient and manageable team meetings, with the focus on solving problems. This full day of training was provided by T.I.P.S. creators Dr. Rob Horner and Anne Todd who helped the group not only understand the T.I.P.S. framework for efficient problem solving meetings, but also spent time looking at and interpreting data. They have used the T.I.P.S. model in schools around Oregon and found that it does increase problem solving and decrease time spent in meetings.
If you are interested in a T.I.P.S. training for the fall, you may contact the following EBISS coordinators who are now also TIPS trainers: Moira McKenna, Kim Hosford, Kathleen Jackson, or Louise Bronaugh.

The Wallace Foundation has posted a just-released study entitled:
Central Office Transformation for District-Wide Teaching and Learning
Improvement
Here's a Summary:
One of the
first and most comprehensive studies of its kind, this report identifies five
major changes that can help transform the focus of school district central offices
from administration and compliance to improving classroom instruction. The
report is based on an in-depth study of central office reform efforts in
Atlanta, New York City, and Oakland, California. The changes identified include
the offices' strong engagement with school principals on improving instruction
in their schools, and the reorganizing and "reculturing" of every central
office so it centers its work on the classroom. The report is part of a series
by University of Washington researchers that investigates how leaders can
contribute to improved student achievement, particularly in challenging schools
and districts.
