Winter Workshop in Eugene
Pathways to Self-Regulation, with Kathleen Lloyd, PhD
Plan to attend our Winter Workshop on Saturday, January 15th, 2011, 9:30am - 12:30pm, with Kathleen Lloyd, PhD, at Far Horizons Montessori School in Eugene.
Expand your knowledge and share with parents the validity of our work and the insightful science behind the observations made by Dr. Montessori. Every teacher wants her classroom to be a self-managing social community. In the context of Maria Montessori's discovery that children are transformed through activities that promote concentration, Dr. Lloyd will introduce current research on self-regulation, which involves the ability to sustain attention, control reactions to stress, and recognize and interpret social cues. Learn how to apply these principles to your own work in preparing an environment that supports the optimal development of the child.
About Kathleen Lloyd: Kathleen earned a PhD in Human Development and Family Science from Oregon State University in 2008. Her dissertation analyzed Montessori's observation of normalization in relation to current theories on self-regulation. She received her AMI Primary Diploma in 1987 and a master's of education in 1990. She has spent 13 years as a primary directress at both Marin Montessori School in California and Pacific Crest School in Seattle, Washington. Kathleen currently teaches in the Early Childhood Education Department at Lane Community College.
We are excited to offer this workshop in Eugene. Credit for training hours will be given. Registration is now open - be sure to save your place! Only $35!
Registration will close Friday, January 7. Register today!
Event will be from 9:30am to 12:30pm at
Far Horizons Montessori School, 2490 Hilyard St.
Eugene, OR 97405

Open House Week Saturday, January 22 through Sunday, January 30
Look for your Oregon Montessori Association full color back cover ad in the January Metro-Parent magazine highlighting our member schools' Open House Week. The ad will direct readers to our OMA website.
Your Open House Event can be as simple or elaborate as you wish. Some member schools last year did their usual once a week tour. Other schools did a Saturday or Sunday afternoon open house and invited their entire school to participate. We'll dedicate a page of the OMA website to dates and times of your Open house. Please send us the dates and times. Look for the page to become active the first week of January. Open House Week is a way to highlight and celebrate the vibrancy of our Montessori community. Enjoy! |
