ELGIN, IL (January 13, 2010) - With Port-au-Prince destroyed, the world is witnessing the worst natural catastrophe since Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the Thailand Tsunami in 2004. Unfortunately, early reports out of Haiti are placing the possible death toll in the hundreds of thousands. Now is the time for the American public to pull together to help those not in a position to help themselves. That is why MD Preferred Services is calling on the thousands of professionals in their network to aid Haitian earthquake victims by giving to Doctors Without Borders. MD Preferred Services, an independent web-based physician resource center, provides physicians access to professionals in financial planning, law, real estate, relocation, travel, and insurance who have been identified by MD Preferred Services and who maintain high professional service standards. One of MD Preferred Services' newer programs is MD Preferred Travel. In cooperation with Orbitz, the recognized leader in travel services, the site serves as the travel hub for thousands of physicians and medical professionals. MD Preferred Services has selected as its exclusive charity Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières, an international medical humanitarian organization that provides aid in more than 60 countries to people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe, primarily due to armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, exclusion from health care, or natural disasters. In light of the earthquake, MD Preferred Services is calling on their entire network of physicians and professionals to utilize the MD Preferred Travel site (www.MDPreferredTravel.com) over the next 30 days for any of their continuing medical education, personal, or business travel, as MD Preferred Services will make a contribution to Doctors Without Borders' relief effort for every reservation booked through the site. "The work that Doctors Without Borders does around the world is truly amazing and their assistance in Haiti is needed now more than ever," said Michael O'Malley, CEO of MD Preferred Services. "We are hopeful that the thousands of professionals within the MD Preferred Service network and the thousands of medical professionals using the network will make it a priority to financially support Doctors Without Borders and the people affected in Haiti." MD Preferred Services is not just encouraging people to utilize MD Preferred Travel as a way to contribute to Doctors Without Borders. Through various forms of communication to their entire network they are instructing people to visit www.DoctorsWithoutBorders.org and make a contribution directly.
