Abdul Sattar Edhi nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

We are pleased to share the news that renowned Pakistani philanthropist and social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi has been officially nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize by the Pakistani government.  

Over the last few months, APF has partnered in a global campaign to secure a nomination for Abdul Sattar Edhi in partnership with Sharmeen Obaid Films, Peter Oborne, Chief Political Commentator at The Daily Telegraph, UK, the Citizen's Archive of Pakistan and the British Pakistan Foundation

 

This nomination is the first step in the process of awarding Mr. Edhi the Nobel Peace Prize. We will keep you updated as the Nobel Committee makes its decision.

PAKISTAN GOVERNMENT NOMINATES ABDUL SATTAR EDHI FOR NOBEL PEACE PRIZE

 

Karachi. February 10, 2012: On the directive of the Prime Minister, the Pakistani government has submitted a formal nomination for Mr. Abdul Sattar Edhi to the 2012 Nobel committee. This nomination is in partnership with 'Edhi for Nobel Peace Prize', a campaign launched by SOC Films and Peter Oborne, chief political commentator of the Daily Telegraph.

 

The initiative includes an online petition and a letter writing campaign aimed at galvanizing support and awareness for Mr. Edhi's nomination. To date, over 75,000 signatures have been amassed and hundreds of letters have been sent to individuals who are in a position to submit nominations to the Nobel Committee.

 

A televised launch event to raise awareness, support and promote the petition for this campaign is scheduled for the 8th of February in the House of Lords in London, England. It is hosted by Engage, a media awareness organization for British Muslims, and will be hosted by Lord Ahmed of Rotherham.
