The American Pakistan Foundation is proud to partner in a global campaign to nominate noted Pakistani philanthropist and social worker, Abdul Sattar Edhi for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2012 and we need your help!
Mr. Edhi has dedicated his life to serving others in Pakistan and abroad. He embodies the spirit of the Nobel Peace Prize and is a deserving candidate for this honor.
We are leveraging our network to reach out to qualified nominators including senior government and elected officials, heads of educational institutions and academics, policy makers and advisors and key influencers in our community to join this movement and put forward Mr. Edhi's name to the Nobel Committee for the Peace Prize in 2012. APF is partnering in this global initiative with the Citizen's Archive of Pakistan, Sharmeen Obaid Films and Peter Oborne, Chief Political Commentator at The Daily Telegraph, UK.
How you can help
1. Please sign the petition online and share it widely with others. Click on the following link to show your support; it only takes a few seconds: Nobel Prize for Edhi petition.
2. Tell as many people as you can about the initiative. Share it via email, Facebook and Twitter or blog about it.
3. Write letters to people who can send recommendations to the Nobel Committee, asking them to nominate Mr. Edhi. These can be members of national assemblies, governments, and international courts of law; university chancellors, professors of social science, history, philosophy, law and theology; leaders of peace research institutes and institutes of foreign affairs; previous Nobel Peace Prize Laureates; board members of organizations that have received the Nobel Peace Prize; present and past members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee; and former advisers of the Norwegian Nobel Institute. About Abdul Sattar Edhi
Abdul Sattar Edhi is the Founder of the Edhi Foundation and Trust, the largest welfare organization in Pakistan. Despite his humble background, Mr. Edhi has dedicated his life to aiding the poor, and over the last sixty years, has single handedly changed the face of welfare in Pakistan. The Edhi Foundation is the leading source of emergency medical assistance in Pakistan, with the world's largest fleet of over 1,800 ambulances, 28 rescue boats and two airplanes. Since its inception, the Edhi Foundation has rehabilitated over 50,000 orphans, rescued over 20,000 abandoned infants, and has trained over 40,000 nurses. It also runs over 330 welfare centers in rural and urban Pakistan which operate as food kitchens, rehabilitation homes, shelters for abandoned women and children, and clinics for the mentally challenged. In addition, the Edhi Foundation owns the largest morgue in Pakistan, and operates 24-hour medical dispensaries and a missing persons hot line.
The Edhi Foundation has also worked extensively in international relief, including donating to victims of Hurricane Katrina, cyclone relief in Bangladesh, aid to tsunami-impacted regions in 2003 and ambulance services in Afghanistan. The Edhi Foundation has centers in the United States, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, Canada and the United Kingdom.
Despite winning several awards and receiving national and global acknowledgement for his work, Mr. Edhi remains a simple and humble man, dedicated to helping those in need.
