Dear Friends,
Greetings from the American Pakistan Foundation. We take this opportunity to share the highlights of our activities for the past month. We have also included news of the sector and other organizations that are doing important work for Pakistan.
We hosted a number of events in September including a development and diplomacy forum at Asia Society and a road show for our partner organization, Rural Support Programmes Network (RSPN). Detailed coverage from these activities, which includes an op-ed from Congressman Mike Honda, is highlighted in our engagement section below.
For programs and projects, we are exploring opportunities in the alternative energy sector. Investments in this sector will not only address the current energy crisis in Pakistan, but will generate economic activity and provide employment opportunities. We will shortly be sharing our plans with you.
Our floods recovery work is well underway and we have been evaluating the recent floods crisis situation to partner with credible disaster recovery organizations on the ground. We have highlighted some worthy organizations which you can donate to for flood relief - we urge you to give generously, as millions have been impacted again this year.

Meet a Beneficiary
Laiq Jan is hopeful for his family's future
\
Laiq Jan is a father of four whose home and livelihood were destroyed in the 2010 floods when all of their belongings were washed away, including his cow and goat. Laiq and his family were left in a very vulnerable situation and lived in a camp for three months with others impacted by the floods.
APF's partner organization Relief International visited Laiq's home with local community members and observed his living situation. Laiq did not have the resources to rebuild his home and make a permanent living place for his family andwas concerned about his family's future, especially if he were to fall sick or not be able to earn any income.
Laiq has been selected as a deserving beneficiary of Relief International's Rapid Livelihoods Rebuilding via Livestock Program which is supported by APF. Under this initiative, Laiq has received one lactating goat and his family has also been provided with permanent shelter. The replacement of livestock provides Laiq and his family with a safety net and he now looks towards rebuilding a better future for his family.
