Spotlight: Sauna
Each month, we will highlight a new feature at The Spa in order to allow everyone a chance to learn about and take advantage of all that's new at our new location. This month, we are featuring our most requested addition, our infrared sauna. Whether you enjoy sauna for its health benefits or merely as a way to relax, it offers something for everyone and is an excellent opportunity to escape the world for a little while.
Saunas have been around since before the sixteenth century, and in the early days they consisted of a simple pit of superheated rocks that were covered with water in order to produce steam. This type of sauna is still used in some places today, but there are many more convenient ways of heating saunas nowadays. Perhaps the most technologically advanced and certainly the least messy, an infrared sauna works by directly heating the body via the transmission of infrared energy. This method of heating is efficient since it directly transfers heat to the body instead of indirectly through the use of steam or hot air.
Benefits of sauna include:
- Reduces stress and promotes relaxation.
- Cleanses pores and leaves skin healthy.
- Burns calories and water weight.
- Clears air passageways in the lungs.
