Harrison Industries Named Carpinteria Chamber's 'Large Business of the Year'

Also attending were David Harrison and his wife Sandi as well as Jim Harrison and Nan Drake.
Harrison Industries is the Carpinteria Valley Chamber of Commerce's 2011 Large Business of the Year. The Harrison family received the honor at the Chamber's 54th annual Community Awards Banquet on Jan. 28.

Whisenhunt Communications nominated Harrison for the award, noting that through the trash-hauling company's innovative residential and commercial recycling programs, Carpinteria has achieved among the highest trash diversion rates in California (73 percent). The statewide average is about 60 percent. At last fall's California Avocado Festival, 98 percent of materials collected were recycled as a result of Harrison's efforts - an incredible feat.

In addition, WC pointed out that Harrison also is a longtime sponsor of many city events like the Carpinteria Triathlon and is a major contributor to local nonprofits, including the Carpinteria Boys & Girls Club and the Carpinteria Arts Council. This year, Harrison also made a large donation toward construction of "The Eagle's Nest" at Carpinteria State Beach's Tomol Interpretive Play Area.

Moorpark Unified School District Provides 'Schools of Choice'

Moorepark Unified School district brochuresThe Moorpark Unified School District's six elementary schools are now all schools of choice, with enrollment to each school open to all district residents regardless of where the family lives within the district.

In order to help spread the word about the schools
of choice,
Whisenhunt Communications
has worked closely with district administrators to develop fliers and brochures about the Moorpark elementary schools.

While all of the elementary schools are required to follow the state-mandated curriculum guidelines, each campus has a distinctive educational approach to instruction and unique offerings for its students.

The informational campaign, funded by federal magnet school grants the district was awarded, seeks to get the word out to the district's diverse community.

Marketing Resolutions
for 2012

Now that a new year is firmly upon us, it's time to set some fresh marketing goals for your business, non-profit or organization. Here are some ideas from Whisenhunt Communications:

  • If your company doesn't have an updated brochure or flier, get one! Let Whisenhunt Communication's team of writers and graphic designers work with you to create an effective, up-to-date piece that explains who you are and what you do. Every business should have an updated brochure or flier to hand out to clients, place in the office and pass out at events.
  • Refresh your website. If your website was created two years ago and looks exactly the same now, it's time to post some new, updated content and artwork to the site. Websites should be living, evolving entities, not static pages with old news. Copy-rich websites with short stories about company staff and achievements obtain more hits on search engines than sites without text. Whisenhunt Communications can redesign and re-write your website so it's up-to-date, looks great and has some interesting stories to read.
  • Pledge to stay current on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. Or, start a blog. Designate someone at your company to handle your social networking updates and blogging or allow Whisenhunt Communications to do it for you as often as you'd like.
  • Get active in the community. You and your business or organization will become better known and well-regarded if you co-sponsor or participate in community events and help out some local charities or non-profits.
