Harrison Industries Earns Climate Registered Status

Harrison Industries logoHarrison Industries has taken important steps to measure its carbon footprint and to help its client cities meet anticipated tight future regulations.

As a result, Harrison, one of the Climate Registry logolargest and oldest private trash-hauling companies in the U.S. and a Whisenhunt Communications client, has received the Climate Registered status, awarded to members of The Climate Registry that measure their greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) according to the Registry's rigorous voluntary reporting program.

By understanding what emissions are being generated by the operations at Harrison and its business partner, Gold Coast Recycling and Transfer Station, the company can see where processes can improve and emissions can be reduced - through fleet fuel changes and energy efficiency at its offices and other management practices.

Harrison has reported that its fleet and facilities emitted the equivalent of about 11,000 metric tons of greenhouse gases in 2009, principally from fuel combustion and electricity, by the management of over 370,000 tons of solid waste.  However, Harrison also separates materials for recycling, and provides feedstock for composting and biomass energy generation.  Recycling reduces the demand for raw or virgin materials, while re-manufacturing with recycled materials generally reduces overall energy use.  These recycling activities provided a community benefit by facilitating the avoidance of over 222,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions, according to a model created by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Good Buzz for Whisenhunt Communications

Blog postIf there's one thing a public relations firm understands, it's the value of good buzz. And when it's unsolicited buzz, it's even better.

So when we at Whisenhunt Communications saw what another local public relations professional wrote about us and our regular News Flash e-newsletter, well, let's just say we were pleasantly surprised.

"The News Flash is crafted carefully," Keith Jajko posted Jan. 21 on his vcpublicrelationsinsight.posterous.com website, "conveying information about the firm's clients in a manner that presents informational value for the readers, all the while offering timely notes about the firm and its players. It looks good, too."

Jajko's praise of our e-newsletter was posted in his weekly, "Friday Feature: Best Practices in Ventura County Public Relations." The post included a visual image of our News Flash and kudos on the content, which is compiled each month by all of us at WC. Graphic Designer Cindy Daly designs each News Flash, and Stan Whisenhunt and associate Amy Bentley edit each issue.

Jajko concluded, "Thank you to Whisenhunt Communications for the newsletter. Looking forward to the next edition."

We thank Jajko for his nice remarks and hope all of you enjoy reading our News Flash just as much. We developed this newsletter to help all our clients and friends in the community keep abreast of their news and ours. Communications is our business, and we are happy to serve as another news source for you.

WC and CMHS Help Keep Parks Clean

Whisenhunt Communications

has joined forces with one of our clients, Community Memorial Health System, and other businesses and organizations to sponsor a pet waste pick-up bag dispensing station at one of Ventura's popular parks.

Whisenhunt Communications, which numbers 11 pet dogs among its associates, will sponsor a dispensing station at Community Park at the corner of Kimball and Telephone roads, which also will have a station sponsored by the Community Memorial Health System.

The city has more than 10,000 dog residents who can produce over 15,000 pounds of pet waste a day! For a $600 donation, concerned businesses, individuals or groups can join us in sponsoring a station for an entire year that will dispense 14,000 bags and prevent 3,500 pounds of pet waste from washing into our water (or sticking to our shoes). Sponsors receive a 18" by 12" sign that can be used to promote their business, create a loving tribute to our beloved canine friends, or show some community spirit.

Donations/contributions may be tax deductible through a partnership with the Ventura Chamber, Commerce and Education Foundation. To learn more about becoming a sponsor or donating to the program, visit www.VenturaMuttMitt.com.

Please join Whisenhunt Communications and Community Memorial Health System in keeping pet poop where it belongs- in the trash!
