SPUHSD Superintendent
Dr. David Gomez Elected
ACSA Vice President

Dr. David GomezWhisenhunt Communications is pleased to announce that Dr. David Gomez, Superintendent of the Santa Paula Union High School District, has been elected as Vice President of ACSA, the Association of California School Administrators. Dr. Gomez was elected to the position May 13 in Sacramento.

ACSA was established in 1971 and is the largest umbrella organization for school leaders in the nation, serving more than 16,000 school leaders.

WC helped Dr. Gomez with his campaign effort by creating and sending out several e-newsletters touting his experience and leadership skills; preparing a flier and postcards; ordering promotional products to pass out to delegates; and consulting about strategy.

ACSA's mission is to support California's educational leaders; to ensure all students have the essential skills and knowledge they need to excel; and to champion public education.

Dr. Gomez has been a public school educator for more than 30 years and active with ACSA for more than 22 years, having served in many positions and on several committees. Dr. Gomez also served as president of ACSA Region 13, which includes Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.

Congratulations Dr. Gomez from all of us at Whisenhunt Communications.

Green Center on June 2

Green Center Opening PostcardCommunity Action of Ventura County
is urging all to "Go Green!"

It's a message you hear often these days, but the Oxnard nonprofit organization is practicing what it preaches. On Wednesday, June 2, CAVC is holding a grand opening of its Green Center at 3401 W. Fifth Street, Suite 100. The event begins at 10 a.m.

CVAC's Green Center will provide energy-efficient education, with access to energy conservation programs. The Green Center also will serve as a community hub for local Community Gardens education and outreach programs. As demand for green technology grows, the Green Center will serve as a central place for community members to learn about these green technologies.

CAVC helps low-income, disadvantaged and at-risk families and individuals throughout Ventura County to become self-sufficient through a variety of programs and services. For more information about CAVC and its Green Center, call 436-4000.
Humane Society of VC Honors Hero Annie Dransfeldt

Annie DransfeldtThe Humane Society of Ventura County shelter has many heroes. One is Annie Dransfeldt.

This longtime animal lover knows very well the pains of losing a beloved pet. She uses her experience and compassion to comfort those who have to bring their animals to the shelter when it's time to say a loving goodbye. It is an extraordinarily difficult time for owners as they grapple with not only the difficult decision but also the devastating loss. While no one is able to alleviate all of the pain, Annie is there to provide much needed support and comfort.

Annie receives a description of the beloved pet/friend from Humane Society office staff, and then carefully searches through her library and the Internet for images of animals that match the look of the pet. She then designs beautiful custom cards and writes a personalized note to the owners.

Annie pays for all of the supplies and postage and refuses to accept money from the Humane Society to cover her costs and priceless service.

Not only has Annie been a hero at the shelter but she has also been an active animal advocate serving as the driving force for the dog park in Camino Real Park in Ventura. It is named the "Annie Dransfeldt Dog Park."

The Humane Society of Ventura County and Whisenhunt Communications tip our hats to Annie Dransfeldt and offer our sincerest of thanks. She brings a ray of sunshine to people on the darkest of days.

Writers and Graphic Artists Collaborate for Success

Whisenhunt Communications writers and graphic artists have a long history of collaborating to get results for our clients. Through face-to-face meetings, phone calls and e-mails, our designers and writers work together to produce top-notch marketing materials.

Our writers and designers have enjoyed a recent string of successes. We are still celebrating Dr. David Gomez's election as ACSA Vice President (please see the story in this issue of News Flash). Graphic designer Cindy Daly and writer Amy Bentley worked with Dr. Gomez to produce a series of monthly e-newsletters to send important messages to ACSA delegates. The Daly-Bentley team also designed and wrote an effective flier and are now developing a new color brochure to tout all the wonderful programs at Santa Paula High School.

Cindy and Designer Joan Phelps both work with writer John Cressy on behalf of Community Action of Ventura County, another client. Cindy and John have developed brochures about CAVC's programs, legal services and Green Center. Joan and John are now collaborating on CVAC's annual report, and Joan recently designed an attractive invitation for CAVC's Green Center Grand Opening taking place June 2 in Oxnard.

Joan and John also joined forces to develop a color brochure for the Humane Society of Ventura County. And, Amy has worked for three years with both Joan and Cindy to develop several colorful marketing materials for the Temecula Valley Rose Society.

All the while, Stan Whisenhunt provides direction, offers advice and makes sure deadlines are met.

At Whisenhunt Communications, the team effort pays off.
