Dear Partners:
2009 is coming to a close soon, and the pace has picked up in all our STEM efforts. From seeking stimulus funds to support our sustainability to coordinating school events, we are all busy in the "work" of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math education.
In this issue, we will share a few ways for you to engage, and ask that you plan to attend the events below:
November 5th, Bioneers & MC2 STEM High School Sustainability Scholars Day
November 12th, Design Lab Early College High School Career Day
November 20th, Design Squad at the Great Lakes Science Center
December 3rd, Annual STEM Partners Holiday Gathering
We also want you to be prepared for progress in 2010. Starting with a new e-newsletter, along with an improved website, and more useful tools for staying informed and getting more involved in our efforts.
I hope to see you soon!
Sincerely,
Sonya Pryor-Jones

| Sustainability Scholars Day |
This year's Bioneers Cleveland Conference kicks off with Sustainability Scholars Day on November 5th at the Cleveland Convention Center. Nearly 500 students and adults from across the state and region will discuss wind energy, bio-fuels, green jobs and community engagement. Free and open to the public, the daylong event is presented by MC2STEM High School, in partnership with Bioneers Cleveland. Building upon momentum generated by the Mayor's Sustainable Cleveland Summit, Sustainability Scholars Day will challenge students to advance their learning beyond the classroom into action. Among the local and national experts presenting their sustainability-focused research and innovations will be ninth grade students from MC2STEM High School. This conference and student presentations are the capstone for the first 10 week project period.
Sustainability Scholars Day will feature green workshops, an inter-generational art activity, and a demonstration of urban debate. Andrew Watterson, the City of Cleveland's new Chief of Sustainability, will provide the welcoming remarks, and will be joined by Jan Morrison, executive director of the Teaching Institute for Excellence in STEM (TIES). Sustainability Scholars Day is made possible by support from the Cleveland Foundation, GE Lighting and Industrial, TIES and the Metropolitan Cleveland Consortium for STEM.

| Career Day at Design Lab |
After a summer of internships, Design Lab Early College High School students are still making an investment in uncovering their career choices. During Career Day on November 12th, students are looking for professionals from the field of architecture, engineering, science, and a host of other fields to spend an hour with them simply sharing about their profession. The intent of this day is for students to learn about each professional's educational background and experience on the job. Additionally,as a school that honors the "hands on" approach, professionals are asked to provide students with an exercise that simulates work activities, followed by a question and answer period.
We need you to join us by volunteering or recommending someone from your organization. For more information contact Cassandra Washington at cwashington@cleveleads.com or 216-225-6427.

| Prime Time at the Great Lakes Science Center |
|
Design Squad, the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning reality TV show that lets kids show off their smarts as they design and build working solutions for real-world clients will premiere at the Great Lakes Science Center on November 20th and November 21st. Cleveland has been selected as one of the few cities nationally to host this on the road segment because of the environment for STEM that has been created by our community. The target audience for this show are middle school students so they give STEM careers consideration before entering high school.
Over the two day period in Cleveland, the Great Lakes Science Center will offer hands on activities inspired by the show to school groups on Friday, and on Saturday there will be a public event for the community. Saturday's event will include more activities and personalities from the show.
