SACC Awarded With 4-Star Accreditation
The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that after a comprehensive self-review, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has once again awarded us with 4-Star Accreditation. This prestigious honor puts us among the top 3% of the 7,000 chambers nationwide. SACC has earned Accreditation since 1966 and is the only accredited chamber in Maryland. This past year, the staff, board, and volunteers of the chamber spent countless hours completing the Accreditation process. Our task: demonstrate competency in 9 core areas ranging from finance to facilities. The only national program recognizing chambers for their effective organizational procedures and community involvement, Accreditation allows us to renew, improve, and promote sound business practices, policies, and procedures.

College Student Discount Program
The Chamber is once again looking for businesses interested in participating in the College Student Discount Program. Annually, Salisbury University, Wor-Wic Community College and University of Maryland Eastern Shore students contribute well over $300 million to the local economy. By taking advantage of the College Student Discount Program, businesses can expand their stake in the college market. Members are encouraged to welcome college students into the community and offer a discount or free gift to thank them for supporting the local economy. Call Sophia Smecker at 410-749-0144 to participate or visit www.salisburyarea.com to download a registration form. Current and new participants must fill out a registration form. |
Welcoming New Teachers
The Workforce Development Committee is once again stuffing bags to welcome new teachers to our community. These bags will be delivered to Wicomico County teachers at their kick off breakfast in August. Bags will also be delivered to members schools including: Salisbury Christian School, Salisbury School and Wicomico Day School. We would love to provide even more goodies and community information (advertising specialties and discount coupons) than we have in the past. Historically we have found that a large percentage of these teachers are new to the area and not just new to teaching. This will be one of the first contacts that they will have with our business community. We feel it is important to make them feel welcome as well as educate them on our area businesses and our area in general. The product, coupon or promotional item should be available for the Chamber by August 3, 2012. If you are interested in helping with this project in any way, please contact Brad at the Chamber for further information (410-749-0144). |

Is your company interested in making the Salisbury RiverWalk a cleaner, more beautiful place? We are looking for any local business that are interested in donating a few hours of their time for the clean-up project along RiverWalk Park. A photo will be taken before and after the cleanup, which will be published in the next issue of the "Business Journal." Supplies and lunch will also be provided for your employees.
