2012 Delmarva Chicken Festival - June 15&16

Mark your calendars for the 63rd Annual Delmarva Chicken Festival on June 15 and 16 at The Centre at Salisbury. Presented by Toyota, this year's festival is guaranteed to have plenty of attractions for the whole family to enjoy. A Carnival Preview Night will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2012 from 6:30-10:00 pm and will include special prices on wristbands. Bring your family and friends and enjoy discounted prices. Attractions taking place daily at the festival will include the Giant Fry Pan, Home & Trade Show, Arts & Crafts Show, Community Resources Show, Educational Exhibits, Carnival Rides, Classic Car Show, numerous children's activities and much more. Admission is free! This annual celebration of the region's chicken industry is sponsored by Toyota, Mountaire Farms, Comcast and The Pohanka Automotive Group. Delmarva Chicken 5K Walk/Run

The 2012 Delmarva Chicken Festival is excited to present the first Delmarva Chicken Run on Saturday, June 16th. Registration starts at 7:00 am, the race will begin at 8:00 am. The course will start and end at Vernon Powell Shoes. The race is for all ages. Refreshments, raffle and age-group awards to follow the race. Chamber Needs Volunteers & Supplies for Chicken Fest!

The Chamber is need of volunteers during the Delmarva Chicken Festival on June 14, 15 & 16. We have 2-hour time slots that need to be filled throughout the weekend. Please reply to this e-mail or call the Chamber today if you are available and would like to help out. Thank you!

The Chamber is also in need of metal sign/fence posts used to construct orange storm fencing. If you or your company have additional posts available that we could borrow for the festival weekend please call the Chamber at 410-749-0144.

"Featherfest" - The Centre at Salisbury Business After Hours

Please join The Centre at Salisbury management staff at their After Hours Business Event on Tuesday, June 12 from 5-7pm in the JCPenney Court. They will be unveiling "Featherfest! The Artful Chickens!" presented by Sherwood of Salisbury. Creatively crafted 4-foot fiberglass chickens will be on display. They are sponsored by local businesses, designed by local artists and will benefit community organizations. Refreshments will be available. Community Garden - Beautification Committee

Anyone interested in working on the development of a community garden for Salisbury is welcome to join the Chamber's Beautification Committee in making plans. Developing the structure under which it will operate is currently beginning to be worked on. A possible location has been identified and logistics are being considered. If you have interest in seeing a community garden in Salisbury, or if you are interested in being one who has a plot in the garden, feel free to contact Donna Griffith at 410-749-0144 at the Chamber or a Beautification Committee member.

Delegate D. Page Elmore Memorial Golf Tournament

On June 16, 2012, the Somerset County Republican Club is sponsoring the Delegate D. Page Elmore Memorial Golf Tournament at the Great Hope Golf Course in Westover, Maryland. The tournament is a means to honor Delegate Elmore's hard work for not only the lower Eastern Shore but for the State of Maryland as a whole. Delegate Elmore fought strongly for watermen, farmers and small businesses so they could have a voice in Annapolis. Delegate Elmore believed in conservative values and the Somerset County Republican Club will be utilizing the proceeds of the golf tournament to help spread the conservative message and help elect candidates that will continue to work for better, not bigger government. Job Search Center in Wicomico Public Library

Look for the new Job Search Center room just past the book return in the Main Library. There is now a whole room dedicated to job seekers, with staff trained to help! Since opening, the Job Search Center has helped over 7,000 people. Job Search Center staff help people look for a job, create or update their resume, apply for jobs online and even help with interviewing skills and thank you letters.

BB&T - Sharing Knowledge for 140 Years

This year marks the 140th year BB&T has been serving clients and the community. BB&T has been sharing financial knowledge and adminstering banking needs since 1872.

Maxima SummerFest 2012 - June 23rd

Hosted by Maxima 106.1 FM - Everyone is invited to this fun filled family event! There will be an array of Latino food vendors, exhibitors, children's activities, zumba presentations, live entertainment from Mexico, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and much more. Maxima 106.1 FM is the first FM Spanish radio station on the Delmarva Peninsula and we are introducing the station to the community, as well as celebrating the Hispanic community on the Eastern Shore. Festival will take place on Saturday, June 23rd, 2pm to 8pm, Route 13 and Market Street (between Avery Hall Insurance and Holiday Inn) in Salisbury, MD. Cost is free and everyone is welcome!

Salisbury Army Annual Golf Tournament

The Salisbury Corps of The Salvation Army will hold its annual golf tournament, "Chip In for Kidz" on Friday, June 22, 2012 at the Green Hill Yacht and Country Club. Play begins at 9:00 a.m. followed by an Awards Luncheon held at the Clubhouse. The tournament format is "scramble" and the fees are all inclusive. There are opportunities for sponsorships, teams, door prizes and donations.

Behavioral Health Summit - June 27th

Where: Wicomico Youth and Civic Center, 500 Glen Avenue, Salisbury, MD

This professional education conference is part of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and the Maryland National Guard's vision for behavioral health professionals and clergy who are educated and equipped to support Service Members, Veterans, and their Families. Conference participants will have the opportunity to attend sessions on: Military Culture, Neurological Issues, Post Traumatic Stress, Suicide Prevention, Traumatic Brain Injury, Reintegration Issues, and more.

Free Dental Care to be Offered to the Public

Misson of Mercy is a two day free dental clinic being organized by members of the Eastern Shore Dental Society and other local volunteers for the weekend of March 13-17, 2013 at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center. The focus of this mission is to provide treatment of immediate dental needs to the underserved populations on the Delmarva Peninsula. Anyone nineteen years of age or older is eligible to receive services including extractions, restoration (fillings) or cleanings. Gospel Concert to Support Church Building Fund

Stella Award Nominee Earnest Pugh will perform on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at James M. Bennett Auditorium. Doors open at 4:15pm and the concert begins at 5pm.
