2012 Delmarva Chicken Festival Seeking Sponsors

This year the Salisbury Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 63rd Delmarva Chicken Festival at the Centre at Salisbury on June 15 & 16, 2012. Various package sponsorships are available for the festival starting at only $250.

Over 25,000 people are expected to visit the Delmarva Chicken Festival in Salisbury, Md. Over 18,000 people visit the mall any weekend day. Can you afford to miss this great opportunity to reach so many potential customers?

SACC Annual Banquet Awards Nomination!

A major change has been planned this year and we will be honoring members as part of the 2012 Annual Banquet, scheduled for Thursday, April 12 from 6-9 pm at Green Hill Yacht & Country Club. We need your help in making this a success.  The Chamber is seeking nominations for the awards and also sponsors to have their name and reputation supporting the prestige of the awards. Sponsors will be asked to participate in the selection and presentation of their award, receive a complimentary ticket to the Banquet and be listed with the award on our Chamber website & publications for years to come.

Did you know you can have a display booth at the Salisbury Festival for only $100? And non-profit organizations can have an informational booth for free ($25 fee for non-profits if you plan to sell items)! Booths are set up from 10 am-4 pm Saturday, April 28, 2012 on East Main Street. Chamber Sponsoring Trip to Ireland

The Chamber is sponsoring a seven day trip to Ireland November 5-12, 2012 with all flights, accommodations including a night in a castle and some meals.  For more information contact the Chamber or attend the orientation on March 21.  This trip is open to all.

Human Resources Roundtable and Lunch & Learn

The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce and the Business Affairs Committee will be hosting a HR Roundtable Discussion and Lunch & Learn on Wednesday, April 18 from 11:30-1:00 pm at the Chamber.The discussion will include a panel of HR experts who will offer an overview of important issues that small businesses are facing everyday. Topics that will be covered include Do's & Don't's of hiring, firing, treatment of employees, and dealing with conflict. HR experts will also discuss interviewing techniques, a discussion of things you need to know while interviewing, as well as policies & procedures, employee handbooks, record keeping, and more!

Zoo Clean-Up Hosted by ESBLN and the ShoreCAN Volunteer Center

The Eastern Shore Business Leadership Network and The ShoreCAN Volunteer Center are partnering to host the annual Salisbury Zoo spring cleanup to promote volunteerism and to raise awareness that people with disabilities can and want to work and give back to their community.
 

This year, the event is taking place on Saturday, April 14th from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. All ages and all abilities are welcome to take part in this fun day of beautifying the Zoo and Ben's Red Swings playground.

Accessibility & the ADA: Facility Standards Update Webinar Series

A 3-part webinar series will focus on highlights of the new 2012 Americans and Disabilities Act (ADA) Standards for Accessible Design. The dates are Tuesday, March 27, Tuesday, April 3, and Tuesday, April 10 at 2:00pm-3:30pm. Click here for more details and how to register.

Wicomico Rotary - "Bootlegger's Ball"
 
The Wicomico Rotary presents their 1st annual  "Bootlegger's Ball" on Saturday March 24th from 6-10 p.m. at The Fountains Wedding & Conference Center in Salisbury. They are raising money for their non-profit partners: Scouting Programs, Junior Achievement, Habitat for Humanity, and Cancer Support Community. A special Happy Hour will take place from 6-7 with open bar wine, beer, and specialty drink, auction items and live music from Bone Daddy's! Attire is flapper style or dressy casual. Holly Community Steak & Lobster Dinner

The Holly Community is hosting a Steak and Lobster Dinner on Saturday, March 24 from 5:30pm-8pm for $20.00 per person. All proceeds benefit individuals with disabilities. Ballroom Made Simple Open House

Ballroom Made Simple, offering beginner Ballroom and Latin Dance Instruction at 325 Snow Hill Road in Salisbury, is pleased to celebrate its 4th business anniversary.

 

Instructor Pam Wood will host an Open House/Free Dance Demo at the studio (across from Pepsi) on Saturday, March 31 from
1:00 - 2:30 p.m. Pam will demo several styles of dance that are on her upcoming spring schedule.

 

Those interested in learning more about ballroom dancing, including Brides and Grooms to-be are welcome to attend. Admission to the open house is free. Blind Industries & Services of Maryland Big Bash

BISM is having their 4th annual big bash on Saturday, March 24th from 6pm to 10pm at the Mardela Springs Fire Station to support their rehabilitation programs. The doors will open at 5:15pm and are $25 in advance and $30 at the door which include dinner, beverages & live music with chances to participate in auctions, win prizes and play black jack and dice games. UMES Hosts Health & Wellness Festival

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore hosts its 14th annual Health and Wellness Festival, Wed., March 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Services Center ballroom.

 

The event is free and open to the community. Over 50 exhibitors representing community agencies, health organizations, the university and area businesses, will promote healthy living and prevention through exhibits and screenings.The 2011 event attracted over 400 members of the community and campus.Free screenings include blood pressure, blood glucose, fitness, body composition (BMI), strength, flexibility and posture. United Way Hosts Putt Putt Tournament

Join the United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore on Saturday, April 28th at 1:30pm at the 68th Street Old Pro Golf course for some good, old fashioned putt putt competition.  Teams of four players compete for the title of "World Champion" with prizes for 1st and 2nd place team, prizes for most outlandish team costumes/uniforms, and a booby prize for the last place "winner".  "Cheats" will be available for purchase to thwart the efforts of your toughest opponents. Library Board Seeks Trustee Applications

The Library Trustees for the Wicomico Public Library are looking for residents of Wicomico County to fill vacancies on the Library Board. Terms for the Board begin July 1, 2012. The term of office is five years, with the eligibility of being appointed for a second five-year term. The Library Board meets from 4 PM to 6 PM on the second Tuesday of the following months: August, October, December, February, April, and June. Applications are available at the Main Library in Downtown Salisbury, on the Bookmobile, at the Centre Branch, the Pittsville Branch, the Bivalve Station and at www.wicomicolibrary.org and are received at an ongoing basis.

Free Health Screenings at PRMC Healthfest

Free health screenings will be made available to anyone who attends the Peninsula Regional Medical Center's HealthFest at James M. Bennett High School in Salisbury on Saturday, March 31 from 7:30am to 1:30pm. The screenings will be performed by PRMC health care specialists and will include vision and hearing, stroke assessment, height, weight and body fat, skin cancer awareness, bone density, balance, oral and diabetes testing.
