   "Get Connected"

Membership Drive to Begin

The top priority of your Chamber in these difficult and uncertain economic times is to help its members and other businesses in our region to weather the storm. The Chamber has many programs to help members with marketing, advertising, training, regulatory compliance and government relations.

To this end, the President Ernie Colburn is launching a membership drive in September to find and recruit business that would benefit from being a part of our Chamber. Invitations to learn more about the Chamber will be going out to firms our members have identified as outstanding businesses they would like to see be involved with the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce. Follow up calls will be made by recruiting teams September 20 - 22. When you get the call, SAY YES and become a part of the only US Chamber Accredited organization in Maryland. Current members are welcome to help start the effort to add 250 new members to increase the size and power of our association.

Avenue of Remembrance

The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce and Shore Bank with the assistance of the City of Salisbury are creating a place of remembrance, a memorial to the victims in New York City, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania. An avenue will be erected to honor the military, police, fire, medical and other personnel who are serving today, have served, and those who have paid the ultimate price to protect our freedom.

Community groups, organizations, churches and businesses may create signs, banners or displays for the tenth anniversary of the 9-11 attacks. The Chamber will place the offered signage along Carroll Street next to the Wicomico River for the people of our community to view as they drive by or stroll through the display area. The displays will go up on September 3-4 and be removed after the Third Friday events on September 16.

The presentations will be judged and awarded certificates for categories such as Most Patriotic, best use of color, best use of words, most moving, and best handmade entry. Cost of displaying your tribute will be $25 for non-profits, community groups, and religious organizations. Businesses are asked to pay $50. Applications are available from the Chamber. The Display Committee reserves the right to decline posting displays that might offend. For more information contact the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce at 410-749-0144 or brad@salisburyarea.com.

Just in Case Emergency Kit Event

The Community Foundation and ShoreCAN Volunteer Center is observing the tenth anniversary of 9/11 by hosting a Just In Case Emergency Kit Event on Saturday, September 10 at 10:00 a.m. at the MAC Senior Center building, 909 Progress Circle Drive in Salisbury.

Following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, thousands of volunteers responded to the needs of their neighbors and provided emergency relief and funding necessary to rebuild those communities.  This event is a tribute to those generous efforts.  Citizens of all ages can volunteer alongside others while assembling emergency disaster kits designed for older adults and their caregivers.

In partnership with Meals on Wheels, the emergency kits will be distributed to 425 seniors living at home in our local community the week of 9/11.

Volunteer opportunities ranging from creating care cards, emergency kit assembly and packaging will be available.  We invite you to bring your family, your friends or your service organization to contribute your time to this special effort.

For more information or to sign up to volunteer, please call Heather Towers, Assistant Program Officer, Community Foundation ShoreCAN at 410-742-9911.  ShoreCAN is also accepting financial contributions to support kit materials for this project.
