American Pickers Coming to Maryland
Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz, are longtime "pickers" or as they call themselves "modern archeologists". They drive the back roads of America knocking on doors, digging through barns and basements, and sifting through junkyards and warehouses. The dirty, rusty treasures and antiques they pull out of these places are not just given a new life, they're saved for future generations to appreciate. The Pickers will be coming to Maryland in the next few months. They are looking for people with collectibles that are ready to sell multiple items. A list of the items American Pickers are looking for can be found at www.Salisburyarea.com. Of course the items featured on the show are not limited to this list. If you know of anyone who has an abundance of these items in our area, or any other interesting collections or items, please contact Cindy Feist at 410-749-0144 or email sacc@salisburyarea.com. |

Eastern Shore Writing Project
The Eastern Shore Writing Project is beginning a new series of programs with a focus on social justice education, and we need your help. This summer, we will offer our first seminar, titled "The Holocaust and Teaching for Social Justice." The program will provide teachers from across the Eastern Shore the opportunity for in-depth study of the Holocaust, and lessons in how to approach this difficult topic, and other social justice issues, through reading and writing. As a part of this program, we have also invited Holocaust survivor and author Irving Roth to provide an evening lecture for any interested Eastern Shore community members. Mr. Roth is scheduled to speak at Salisbury University on the evening of Thursday, July 21st. There will be a lecture, question and answer session, and a book signing. This event will be open to the public.
We at ESWP are passionate about Holocaust and social justice education because of its modern relevance. Your support would help us bring this message not only to the teachers in the seminar, but also to community members from across the Eastern Shore. If you would like to support The Eastern Shore Writing Project and make a contribution or have additional questions, please contact Stefani Pautz at stefani.pautz@gmail.com. |

U.S. Chamber Comments on May's Disappointing Jobs Data | |
Following today's report that 54,000 new jobs were created in May, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Chief Economist, Dr. Martin Regalia, issued the following statement: "While we don't want to make too much out of one data point, the latest jobs report is a clear indication that the economy has hit a slow patch. The economy lost some steam in the first quarter of this year and this slowdown is now being felt in the labor market. In addition to the weak job gains, the unemployment rate rose for the second consecutive month."
"Despite the recent weakness, I expect the pace of economic growth to improve modestly in the second quarter before gaining a bit more momentum towards the end of the year. Stronger economic growth should pull us out of our current doldrums and get us back to creating around 200,000 net new jobs per month."
"By failing to alleviate the uncertainty businesses are feeling, Washington continues to stifle hiring. It's time to address the mountain of new regulations and mandates coming from this town and act on the pending trade agreements so we can turn this economic recovery into a jobs recovery."
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations. The Salisbury Area Chamber is an active member of the US Chamber and is Accredited by the US Chamber. |
