Testimonials
(Major learning experiences?)
"Leading isn't dragging your partner around the floor, but guiding them"
Megan Rennie & Will Richardson

"We are enjoying this class so much and are fondly referring to Fridays as our "date night".  It is great to have this time as a couple (we've been married for 28 years) and love your humor and understanding of insecurities as new dancers." Wes & Jenny Cupido (business owners)

(Major learning experiences?)  "That someone who, for more than half a lifetime, believed he had no rhythm or ability to move to music, has been shown through Sabrina's ability and diligence that this is not the case."  Peter McKay (goldsmith)

"In your teaching you are always emphasizing the importance of the "relationship" and this has allowed us to schedule time for ourselves. We always enjoy your classes.  We're challenged to learn and improve and through your teaching methods we continue to add to what we know and practice what we already had."  Nicole Stevens

(Enjoy most...?) "The positive learning atmosphere.  Constructive criticism delivered with a smile is a fantastic method of fostering improvement."  Megan Inglis

FAQ's

Music - where do I find it, identify the type of dance, use it best for practicing?

You can find it at the Library, in your own music collection, on iTunes, or in music stores and specialty dance businesses.  If you purchase/find specialty ballroom/Latin Cd's, they will tell you what dance it is right on the CD.  Specialty Practice Cd's will have a variety of dances on them and make it easy to just play and practice, without having to constantly be changing albums.  You can purchase these Cd's though Sabrina's Dance Instruction, a local company called Disctribution @ 780-455-1670, and some are also available on iTunes.

On iTunes you can also type in the type of music you are looking for (ie: Cha Cha, Waltz, ect..) and you will get a list of songs and albums.  If you recognize some of the songs, you can also look up that same song and find it by different artists too.  Then you can buy it, find it in your own collection, or do a search at your local library.

As for practicing, you can play it on your stereo, or, my favorite, play it on your iPod/MP3 player  - and the MAN has the headphones - really helps improve lead and follow!  Remember, the man follows the music, the woman follows the man!

Dance Movies

I am often asked to recommend  dance movies.  Here are some of my favorite DVDs - maybe they'll find there way under your tree?
Shall We Dance (Japanese original and Richard Gere/Jennifer Lopez remake)
Top Hat (or any Fred Astaire movie!)
Dirty Dancing  (always a classic)
Take the Lead (mmmm & with Antonio Banderas!!)
Strictly Dancing (Australian black humour - unusual but enjoyable)
Dance With Me (cheesy script but GREAT dancing - lots of top ballroom dancers!)
Out to Sea (Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon play dance hosts on a cruise ship)
Swing Kids (during the WWII Swing dance was the German youths rebellion)
Salsa (again another cheesy '80's script, but great dancing!)
In Theatres - another one of my favorite movies has been redone - Footloose - starring one of my favorite dancers, Julianne Hough from TV's Dancing With the Stars and the movie Burlesque.  Opens Oct. 15th.
To you and yours, all the best of the holiday season.  May you rejoice in all the blessings to be found in your life and create more in the lives of others.

Sincerely,
Sabrina Thievin
