First Meeting of the Year is a Big Hit!

Feb Mtg Elegant Parties     Elegant Parties put out all the stops for the first ISES meeting of 2010! The company was eager to show off its new digs: a 12,000-square-foot space filled from floor to ceiling with thousands of products, from linens and chairs to tables, catering equipment, pipe/drape, and more.
Guests entered the massive space and were able to meander through the aisles, taking in the vast inventory while sampling cuisine from a variety of caterers who set up tasting stations throughout.
Jason Savino of Potions n Motions provided a fantastic ISES branded bar for everyone to enjoy.
After a bit of networking, guests were ushered to the other end of the warehouse, which was draped in white fabric for a special education session titled: Putting Your Event in a New Light: How to Work with a Lighting Company to Enhance and Transform Your Events.
ISES board member Adam Klein, of A & M Productions, and Damon Russell of Complete Music & Lighting discussed tips on how to make the most of lighting effects to enhance décor, staging, entertainment, and more.
After a brief Q&A period, guests went back to networking, dancing to music by DJ Alexandre Marc, and enjoying an interactive photo booth provided by Spencer Kramer of A Hot Party!

Event Leftovers - What Do You Do with All of that Stuff?

It happens to every party or wedding professional, at the end of the event you have all of this...stuff. What do you do with it?
Event Leftovers is an exciting website where you can buy or sell new or gently-used items that are leftover after the party's over.
Not only is it a green way to go by recycling products, but it's also a great money-saving or money-making idea.
Props, linens, party favors, paper products - virtually anything durable you have that's left over at the end of the event can be sold on the Event Leftovers site.
What does that mean to you? Well, now you can take advantage of someone buying too many  products who are now trying to sell them at a discount for you to buy for your upcoming event. Whatever the occasion, you can find great deals at Event Leftovers.
Plus if you don't see the item you want and have the time to wait, you can subscribe to get an e-mail alert when your product becomes available.
And while you can save money by buying for less, you can even make money. You can sell any leftovers that you may have to recoup some of the money you spent on your event.
Listing items is free and there is a nominal fee if you sell anything. Isn't that better than cluttering up your garage or warehouse with a dozen extra vases and a collection of party favors?
When selling, the trick is to be as specific as you can in your item's description such as including the dimensions of the item, color, style and so forth.  Be sure to include a high quality photo. Remember a picture says a thousand words.

Vanessa With March fast approaching, it seems as if the event world has been in warp speed since the start of the year!

Super Bowl is behind us and for many ISES members it was a long, busy week!

Now that the stress of the big game is over, I'd love to hear your thoughts on what you did, how you made it through, and the I-can't-believe-that-almost-happened moments!

The Buzz word is BUSY!!

Wow...could it be possible that we are entering the month of March?!!  If time is going by quickly...that's a great sign.  It means we are BUSY!!!!

Vanessa, Victoria, and the rest of the board are consistently putting together amazing educational programs for us.  You, our members, are being provided with top experts who are bringing you lighting, draping, props, and knowledge to add to your events.  If you're not an event planner that doesn't mean you can't refer or provide these services.  The client will always be happy that you have solved their "problem".  Keep in mind, we are a world of resources so that you can keep BUSY.

I hope Super Bowl kept you all BUSY and brought many  great business opportunities. Please make sure you share your experiences with Vanessa. I look forward to reading about them in our next newsletter.

Tell us about your position as a casino special events manager
As part of the casino marketing team I plan, create, and coordinate concerts, parties, events, and other marketing initiatives to build business and guest loyalty.

What makes your position different from other similar positions ?
What I love about my job at the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek is that we truly strive to create unique events and promotions that set us apart from other casinos.  We like to "think outside the box". Where else would an event planner get the opportunity to put together events like the U.S. premiere of Dinner in the Sky, Jet Pack Aviator and Flying Elvis shows, Roller Derby bouts, produce concerts and theme parties?!  I am always busy, always challenged, and I LOVE IT!

What are your professional and personal goals?
Professionally, I want to continue to grow in the special events industry.  At some point in the near future I would also like to teach event planning and entertainment at all levels of education.  Personally, I want to be more involved in planning educational and personal-growth events and seminars and if there is any time left...more international travel vacations.

Why did you join ISES and what do you hope to get out of it in the coming months?
Life is about growing and learning so by joining ISES, I hope to further my knowledge in the events industry and create new partnerships.  Even more important to me is to contribute to the growth of others in our field.  It is great to be successful but it is much more rewarding to contribute to the growth and success of others.

South Florida Wedding Network and Go Riverwalk to Present the Diamond Wedding Event
at the Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale in March with James Tramondo of "Who's Wedding Is It Any Way?" to Make a Special Appearance

For the first time ever, the newly-formed South Florida Wedding Network is holding a unique and very exclusive Diamond Wedding Showcase at the Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale on March 14 from 2:30-5:30 p.m.  More than 35 of South Florida's top wedding vendors will be on hand to give brides personal information about how to make their wedding dreams come true.
The collection of companies that make up the South Florida Wedding Network were selected as the best in their category.  According to Bobby Kyser, the owner of Petals Panache and founder of the group, this is South Florida's only one-stop wedding network of the top preferred vendors in more than 25 different areas. It was modeled after a successful wedding network in Louisville, Kentucky, Kyser's hometown.
"Each firm was chosen based on their reputation, track record, quality of service and customer satisfaction," he said. "Participating brides enjoy discounts for using two or more of the network vendors."
Tickets to the event are $25 each and include champagne and passed refreshments provided by the Ritz-Carlton and a wedding planning notebook for each bride. For more information on the event, visit www.southfloridaweddingnetwork.com

Proceeds from the event benefit the Junior League of Greater Fort Lauderdale
