Sanity, Insanity, and Common Sense.

As an undergraduate, I had an amazing professor that introduced us to the world of individuals that functioned through insanity.  As I entered into graduate school, I felt that I was part of a world that had quite a bit of insanity.  Today as a professor and as a business owner in the event world I am ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE I live in the world of insanity. So how do we keep ourselves sane in an insane profession?  It's really easier than we think.  Here's how you're going to do it before the holiday season approaches.

Keep real friends close.  Many of you know I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.  The possibility of any type of cancer is scary.  The feeling of becoming insane triples.  However, through the past weeks, my friends have kept me sane and have reminded me about having common sense.  Many times I have written about the importance of ISES not only as a networking opportunity, but as a relationship opportunity.  I am glad that I can stand proud every month when I write this article in stating this is very true.  HAVING FRIENDS WILL KEEP YOU SANE, KEEP THEM CLOSE.

Enjoy the Insanity.  It's healthy to admit that we CAN act/be a little crazy sometimes. Do it, get over it, and get back to being "normal".

Have Common Sense.  There is such a thing.  There is also a gut feeling that can be used as your common sense "meter".  If it doesn't feel right, don't do it.  If you're not sure, don't make the decision.  When you're angry, be very careful what you might say-especially in emails-you may never get a chance to correct it.

Enjoy the holiday insanity, it's part of who we are in the industry.  If the insanity gets to be too much, turn to someone who can validate your actions or provide you with guidance.  ISES is a perfect place to start!

Members Enjoy an Over the Top Meeting

Oops, we did it again! The chapter hosted another fabulous meeting hosted by Over the Top (OTT) and Premier Party Rentals.

The event began with a tour of OTT's extensive warehouse-from its showroom through the laundry area and even the sewing room. The winding tour led into a fantastic clear tent provided by Premier, complete with great lighting and ceiling décor from Frost Lighting. The tent was outfitted with cocktail tables and hi boys dressed in linen in a variety of colors, fabrics, and patterns. OTT even designed chic centerpieces of flowers made of what else? Fabric. Guests noshed on a plentitude of tasty treats from fellow ISES members C.A. & Company Catering, Catering Concepts, Downtown Events and Catering, Palm Caterers, and Tastebuds. From gourmet sliders to petite crab cakes, there was something for everyone! DeSoto Imports Wine & Spirits had plenty of bubbly on hand plus a wine bar for guests to indulge in. Delicious Delights, Susie's Scrumptious Sweets, and Café ala Carte provided enough sugar to satisfy every sweet tooth.

Party Time DJs' own Jeff Greene spinned the best music from retro hits to current chart toppers that keep members shakin' it on the pseudo dance floor area in front of the stage. What better way is there to enjoy what ISES members have to offer?

Donald Braun, donald braun events LLC

Tell us about your company
donald braun events is a full-service event planning company, providing high-end, custom-created designs for corporate clients, fundraising and philanthropic organizations.

Our focus on personal attention, creativity, cutting edge design elements, and impeccable customer service help us form a bond with our clients as true partners.  We pride ourselves on bringing the same intense energy and enthusiasm to every project-large or small-within our clients' budget parameters. Size doesn't dictate effort or dedication at donald braun events!

What makes sets you apart from the rest?
CREATIVE ENERGY - It has been said that there are "no new ideas" and it has "all been done before". Don't believe it!  I find creative inspiration in my ability to take old ideas, objects, and materials and combine or repurpose them in new and unexpected ways. No two projects are ever the same and I love that!  We partner with vendors that share this excitement and energy-providing an amazing confluence of ideas and creative synergy for our clients.

WE LISTEN - Vital to our successful partnership with clients is our ability to listen to their needs.  We listen to their concepts, desires, and budgets then convert and expand them into creative and successful programs!  By asking in depth questions, we are able to surpass their original vision.

PASSION - We are willing to do whatever it takes to make an event successful-checking every detail and leaving nothing to chance.  We have a passion to perform flawlessly because essentially, we are accountable for our clients' success.

PARTNERSHIPS - Our partnership with clients extends beyond a single event.  We are there for them as a resource and problem solver, offering solutions and answers to questions even when we are not working on a current project together.

What are your professional and personal goals?
I am excited to continue expanding the company and to look for new ways that technology can enhance our creative and unique designs. Tapping into forms of technology, such as the power of social networking and cloud computing, that allow you to contact clients and vendors on a regular basis, is a priority.  I am fascinated by exploring new trends (which blogs are great for) and want to find inspiration in unexpected ways!

Why did you join ISES?
I joined ISES to take advantage of educational opportunities and to meet more people in the local, national, and international event community. Since we work in many markets, it gives me a network of resources and connections when traveling with our clients!

What do you hope to get out of ISES in the months to come?
Now I have a whole community of like minded individuals with whom I can explore ideas and synergize creative energy to inspire each other-pushing the boundaries and looking at exciting ways to turn imagination into reality!  I can't wait to see what comes next...
