It's probably safe to say that over Labor Day weekend, you over did it with the celebrating, eating, and drinking.  Now, with Fall at our doorstep and the allure of Halloween treats and Thanksgiving feasts, it's time to detox because let's face it...it's time to work!!
Good times are ahead but you need your body in a good state of mind. Here are five foods to give you that feel-good feeling. Following the list is a recipe from Downtown Events & Catering that incorporates these items to get you ready to conquer all your events!

Garlic
Add it to everything -- salads, sauces, spreads. In addition to the bulb's cardio benefits, it activates liver enzymes that help filter out junk.

Sesame seeds
They're credited with protecting liver cells from the damaging effects of alcohol and other chemicals. For a concentrated form, try tahini, the yummy sesame seed paste that's a staple of Asian cooking.

Cabbage
There are two main types of detoxifying enzymes in the liver; this potent veggie helps
activate both of them. Coleslaw, anyone?

Lemons
You need to keep the fluids flowing to wash out the body and fresh lemonade is ideal. Its
vitamin C, considered the detox vitamin, helps convert toxins into a water-soluble form that's easily flushed away.

Fruits
They're full of almost all the good things such as vitamin C, fiber, nutritious fluids, and all kinds of antioxidants.

BackVanessa       Although I missedthe meeting at the Gansevoort due to illness, I heard it was a successful turnout. If you want to avoid getting sick, check out the article at the bottom left to see which super foods you can incorporate into your diet to keep you fit and ready for business!

Last month I asked: What do you do to prepare for the rush of events and last-minute holiday planning?

Here is a sampling of answers from fellow members:
"Our staff is organized and prepared to take on the last minute events but will not take on more business than we
can provide for in order to uphold our level of product."
---Mike Sipe, MSE Events

"Throughout the year I try to stay current with regard to
new hotels and event venues available. In addition, of
utmost importance is having trusted partner vendors who
will respond quickly to your requests for proposals."
---Mona S. Meretsky, CSEP, COMCOR Event & Meeting Production

"I actually slow down and get very meticulous about details.
I am not afraid to turn away clients that might cause
undue stress due to their lack of planning."
---Sandra Hermens, Top Hat Entertainment

Sometimes a bump in the head can be a good thing!

Recently I was at an event draping fabric, and I lost my balance and hit the pavement.  The ambulance took me away and four simple staples on my head put be back together again.  Thank goodness all is good and life can go on.  I am a true believer that things happen for a reason and this bump in the head was one of them.  I am also a true believer in our ISES South
Florida Caribbean Chapter Community, but this is
what my bump in the head confirmed:

1.  ISES members are warm hearted:  The facebook postings and calls I received I am sure helped in my recovery.
I was touched by your thoughts and concern. Thank you!

2.  ISES members are there for you: I reached out to some members to assist on previously booked events.  At a moment's notice you were there for me. Thank you!

3. Business is obviously business, but with ISES I always find it is a step beyond that.  There is a level of trust we can have knowing that our business will grow because of the resources and friendships we develop.  Because of the resources I tapped into at ISES, this accident was transparent to my clients, and we didn't miss a beat with our events.

I look forward to "bumping" into you at the next meeting!

at the Gansevoort South Beach

If ever there was a wonderful ISES meeting, it had to have been this September's meeting at the Gansevoort South in Miami Beach. The pre-function space at the Gansevoort was bedecked in Room Service's newest collection, Extravaganza. Bold colors and fabrics made it easy to sit down, kick back,  and enjoy the eclectic surroundings.
                                                                       ISES Sept Mtg
Guests were treated to a complimentary Leblon Caipirinha, as well as an "Fountain of Youth" specialty drink made of VeeV Acai Spirit, ZICO coconut water, passion fruit, and orange zest. Drinks were paired with a beautifully presented spread of food from One Restaurant Group. Dishes included imported and domestic cheeses with breads and assorted fruits; a Mediterranean display with hummus, black olive tapenade, pita bread, grilled marinated vegetables; chips and dips including charred tomato salsa, guacamole, pickled jalapenos; and a pasta station with grilled chicken, penne, herbed pesto and garlic bread. And that was just the beginning.

As the room filled up, guests were led into the Gansevoort's only ballroom, a sprawling space with rich colors. There, pairs of chairs dotted the room. Under the guidance of SFLC's new VP of Programs, Alan Eingold of Over the Top, attendees speed-networked. But this what not your typical tell-me-about-your-company session. Questions were asked and each person was given time to speak. Then one row would move over (in a musical chairs sort of way) to the next spot to speak with someone new.

After the session, more conversation ensued over dessert. A table filled with tasty confections provided by Susie's Scrumptious Sweets was on display, which paired perfectly with the variety of coffee concoctions from Café Ala Carte.
The late-night sugar boost kept guests mingling and networking well past the meeting's closing time.
