PresletterPresident's Letter

Recently I came across a quote from the Dalai Lama of Tibet that really reminded me of ISES.   "If you find that the teachings suit you, apply them to your life as much as you can.  If they don't suit you, just leave them be".    This was the mind set I had when I was invited to my first ISES meeting.  I wasn't sure what to expect.  So I decided that if it worked, it worked...if it didn't, I would simply walk away.

Well, here I am, in my second term as president and still no regrets.  I have followed the advice of the Dalai Lama and have applied many of our Chapter's principals and teachings to my business through
the great  educational programs provided at our meetings.  I have met wonderful individuals who have become business colleagues, and I have made lasting friendships.  ISES and our members suit my life and business perfectly.   The teachings, whether formal educational sessions or networking with fellow members, have been a wealth of knowledge.

Our great team, the board, looks forward to the many "teachings" they will be presenting to you and that you can apply to your business this year.  We will not focus on the economy--we will go beyond that and will bring creative ways to keep our businesses competitive.

Respectfully,
Dr. Aimee Zadak

W Fort Lauderdale Hosted the July Installation Gala Dinner
Board
The July ISES meeting was about celebrating all things new: the installation of the new board of directors for the 2009/2010 term, the opening of the new W Fort Lauderdale, as well as new beginnings for some of our members.
With the theme of Mission:Possible, the board focused on creating an evening filled with great networking and sponsor appreciation.  An edgy design and on-trend color palette highlighted by gunmetal gray, vibrant fuchsia, and deep purples was carried throughout the venue.
As members registered, they were served an  ISES-tini, a delicious fruity libation with a rich color of a Concorde grape. With cocktails in hand, members ascended to the second floor lobby to enjoy lavish lounge areas provided by Room Service Rentals.  Plush white slipper chairs, oversized square ottomans, and sofas were accented with custom made throw pillows in the event's signature colors.
A venue tour by hotel staff took guests to such spots as the third floor bar and lounge with breathtaking views of the ocean and a peak of the clear-bottomed pool. A futuristic stilt walker from Galaxy Productions lured guests into the ballroom as the DJ played the theme song from Mission: Impossible.
The ballroom was transformed with long royal tables covered in silver Fortuny linens from Over the Top Party Linen. They coordinated perfectly with the sleek square seats from the hotel. Centerpieces from Balloonatics/The Proper Image added an elegant touch to the tables. Vibrant purple Fortuny napkins popped against the linen and silver beaded chargers provided by Florida Event Décor completed the look. The company (a new venture by the former owners of Art of the Party)also provided a unique backdrop of fabric columns with cascade circles. The backdrop was an ideal canvas for projecting geometric patterns, created by Complete Music & Lighting. They also designed the perfect ambiance thanks to LED up lighting in warm purple and pink hues that brought the space to life.
The W Fort Lauderdale's catering team surpassed expectations with a menu featuring flavorful dishes prepared to perfection. A salad of baby Iceberg wedge with crispy bacon and crumbled bleu cheese was followed by an entrée of a breast of chicken with creamy polenta, seasonal vegetables, and chicken au jus.  The installation of the board took place before dessert, where ISES SFLC Founding member, Joseph A. Van Eron, CSEP, inducted Dr. Aimee Zadak as chapter president. She in turn inducted the board.
After the installation there was just enough time for the 50/50 raffle, benefitting the Ira-Mitchell Steiman Quality of Life Fund, and to enjoy a decadent chocolate marquise with crème de cocoa dessert, and some dancing.
