Recognition |
Well, my son did something I never did, he literally squeezed four years into three and graduated from the Moody Bible Institute with a BA. Well done. I actually took 4.5 years to get my BA, but to be fair to me, Moody only offered a 3-year diploma back in the prehistoric days I attended there. He is now starting his real instruction time in ministry as the Youth Pastor at Valley Bible Church in San Marcos, which will soon be in Vista (read below) as well as starting seminary in the fall at Westminster. Vicki and I had the chance to go out to Chicago to celebrate this accomplishment. Our immediate family waited for him to come home, and we gathered over the Memorial Day weekend to recognize him as well.
Recognition is something we sometimes shy away from for a variety of reasons. Maybe we don't want others to get a "big head" or we think they should "do it for the Lord" and know that "their reward in heaven will be great." Well, all this is true, but we also should encourage people, acknowledge their value, accomplishments and sacrifices. Paul wrote of his acquaintances Stephanas, Fortunatus and Achaicus and said, "they refreshed my spirit as well as yours. Give recognition to such people." (1 Cor 16:18 ESV). Did you read that, "give recognition to such people?" So celebrate those graduations, birthdays, anniversaries; recognize your volunteers, staff and pastors; and show appreciation to firefighters, police, teachers and even politicians.
Well done to all. Well done, Andy.

Vally Bible Church Relocation Enters Escrow |
Pastor Hugh McMenamin of Valley Bible Church says that their church has entered escrow to purchase a new church building facing the 78 freeway in Vista. Meanwhile, they will move out of their current worship center in San Marcos on June17 and worship at San Marcos Middle School during the escrow process. The middle school is on a busy road and should even provide some good exposure to new people during the summer months. They hope escrow will be done by the end of summer and they will be able to move into their new building. Pastor Hugh also hired my son, Andy, as his youth pastor. |
Rancho Baptist a Big Help in Hollywood |
Rancho Baptist in Temecula sent a group of young people to Hollywood to help Hope Again with their annual fundraiser, "Walk of Hope." This group helped set-up, organize, and clean-up the event. They also walked the route through Hollywood to help Hope Again raise over $20,000.
Hope Again is an excellent ministry that was founded by Carole Clarke in 1992 to serve the poor, homeless and disenfranchised in the Hollywood area. What began on a shoestring, without the shoestring, in one tiny room off the alley of a church, has grown to encompass a home for women, a home for men and a safe haven for women with children. Ross Lokken, a former CB Pastor, is the Executive Director of this ministry. If you would like to learn more about them, or donate money or time, contact Hope Again here. |
Mission 316 Church Plant Growing |
In the summer of 2011, Pastor Sam Brumit and his wife, Judy, felt it was time to begin to gather a small group of people and brainstorm about what launching a different kind of church would look like. They prayed and planned and eventually connected with CB to plant a church in San Marcos called Mission 316. This new church launched on Easter 2012 and is meeting at the Senior Center in San Marcos where they are seeing their attendance steadily increasing each month. Pastor Sam Brumit says they also have seven baptisms coming up in a few weeks. CBSC loaned them a trailer to store and transport their staging and equipment.

Good, Bad and Ugly in Lake Elsinore |
The Ugly: Last month, LakeHills Community Church had their church broken into yet again. Pastor Dave Metzger says that this is the 16th break-in during his 12 years at the church. Security alarms did little to stop this thief from kicking in a metal door. Fortunately, not much was taken. The Bad: Then the church found out that their sound system, which was on loan to them, was needed elsewhere. No sound system. CBSC had offered their small portable system if they needed it. The Good: Finally, some good news came through a new attendee who worked with sound systems. He offered to donate a significant amount of equipment and time to help install a sound system that would be better than what the church was previously using! LakeHills now has a great sound system of their own that is worth much more than the $1,000 spent out of their small budget for the new equipment! |
Mountain View Bible Votes in Teaching Pastor | Mountain View Bible Church in Alpine, near San Diego, voted unanimously to call Eric Motl back as their Teaching Pastor. Eric and his wife, April, previously served at Mountain View before moving to Massachusetts where Eric Pastored a church for awhile before returning to California. He started at Mountain View on May 13th, Mother's Day. |
Heart Surgery in Barstow |
Pastor Jay Crosier suddenly found himself at St. Mary's hospital in Apple Valley after a doctor discovered all his coronary arteries were clogged. Jay has pastored Trinity Baptist Church in Barstow close to 15 years. Recently, his health has suffered, and his doctor found that he needed bypass surgery. Pastor Jay will be out for a good part of the summer as he recovers from surgery. Trinity is now looking for regular pulpit supply during this recovery time. |

CBGlobal President Rene Atienza and his wife, Stella, at Taal Lake Resort |
You're invited, if you can make the trip, to the Philippines this November. CBGlobal has announced that their Conference will be held in a resort hotel overlooking the Taal Volcano which is reported to be the world's smallest active volcano. It is located south of Manila, about a 2&1/2-hour ride. The conference will begin with a dinner on the 27th of November (Tuesday) and end with lunch on the 30th (Friday). However, participants from other countries are invited to stay one more day in Manila to join the 50th anniversary celebration of the CB Philippines as an association of churches. This celebration, at which at least 8,000 CBers are expected to attend, will be held right after the

The cost of registration to this conference is $250.00/person. This will take care of hotel accommodation (double occupancy), food, materials, local transportation and other miscellaneous expenses.
