Who is Patrick? |
According to Christianity Today, there are some
misconceptions about Patrick:
Patrick isn't really a Saint with a capital S, having never been officially canonized by Rome. And Patrick couldn't have driven the snakes out of Ireland because there were never any snakes there to begin with. He wasn't even the first evangelist to Ireland (Palladius had been sent in 431, about five years before Patrick went). Patrick isn't even Irish. He's from what's now Dumbarton, Scotland (just northwest of Glasgow).

Family
This coming week, we will gather as a family of associated churches. I hope you will come. We have planned a helpful and hopefully inspiring and informative annual meeting for you. We realize that we can't compete with other seminars and conferences, but at this gathering, we all are "family" in a way, and your presence can encourage other family members.
My daughter, Amy, was very encouraged by her family this past month. I recently got a call from her that her years of uncertainty and waiting for a divorce from a sad and painful abandonment were now complete. It had been over three years since her husband had denied his faith and left the church, God and his wife. During those years, God brought into her life a wonderful and caring young man who had gone through a similar situation. At first they were just acquaintances, then just friends, then special friends and then...well, they just had to wait. Lots of waiting. No engagement until the divorce was final...and it took a long time. Finally she received the news, it was final. The engagement was one week later, and, well, why wait, the wedding was going to be one week after that. "Dad, can you do the ceremony on the beach in front of just our immediate family?" Of course. On February 17th, on Laguna Beach, with all her family, who changed schedules and made arrangements, Amy became Mrs. Drew Moore. Welcome to the family, Drew. Family does matter, "especially to those who belong to the family of believers." (Eph 6:10 NIV) May we continue to be used by God to add more to his family.
See you, if you can make it, at our annual meeting.

This will be his second term.

Three CB Church Plants on Easter
CB Southern California has financially partnered with three different church planters and their ministries that will all launch on Easter, 2012. Each church has plans to plant another church within their first decade of existance. These three church planters will be introduced at our annual meeting in March. They are currently looking for temporary locations to start, but the general areas are set. They are:
Sam Brumit: "Mission 3:16" in San Marcos area
Brett Clifford: San Juan Capistrano
Shaun Garman: "Seed" in Ventura area

Pray for these church planters and their efforts. If you would like to help them in anyway, financially, coaching, volunteer help, etc., please let them know. |
A Pastor's Dirty Little Secret
by Philip Wagner Peter Drucker, the late leadership guru, said that the four hardest jobs in America (and not necessarily in order, he added) are: - The President of the United States
- A university president
- A CEO of a hospital and
- A Pastor
Is that true? Pastors love God and love people. They get to pray for people, lead people to a faith in Jesus Christ, and teach the Word of God. That's the dream job. You can read the Bible all day, pray, play a little golf, and preach. I want to do that! Here is the secret...... |
Five Scary Trends that Could Shipwreck the Church by Geoff Suratt
I have identified five trends that I see in the American church that, if unchecked, will shipwreck us. These trends are not pointed at any particular church; these are simply my observations and opinions based on 30 years in the trenches. I am feeling a little Old Testament minor prophetish, so I apologize in advance if there is a negative tone; my only goal is the expansion of the Kingdom and to see the church prevail. Let's get started with one near and dear to my heart:

Mission Support Needed
Ashley Polverelli is with Missions Door and recently visited the CB office to explain that she is working with Recovery House of Worship in New York, which has planted 6 churches that reach the recovering addict, their family, and friends. Many people have come to acknowledge Christ as their Lord and Savior through this ministry and now they have plans to start some church planting work in the LA area. If you would like to support or find out more about this ministry, you can contact Ashley at polverellia@gmail.com. |
Courageous Tops DVD Charts Upon Release
Christian retail stores helped make Courageous the best-selling DVD of all in the country in its first week of release. The faith-based cop drama from church-based Sherwood Pictures, makers of the hit marriage drama Fireproof, topped the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart for the week ending Jan. 22, ahead of the George Clooney political drama, The Ides of March. As director Alex Kendrick says, the ministry of this movie, first in theaters and now in homes, continues to expand: "With each film, we've been grateful to see audiences and theater counts grow. It's been remarkable to witness our church-made films do well head to head with Hollywood movies." read more |
