Day Story

Devoted and Determined During World War II my parents had planned a romantic Valentine's Day wedding. Suddenly my father, then stationed at Camp Edwards in Massachusetts, received orders to prepare to ship out, and all leaves were canceled. Being a young man in love, he went AWOL. He and my mother were married four days earlier than originally planned and he returned to base to an angry sergeant. After hearing the explanation, the sergeant understandingly replied, "Okay, okay!" Then, as an afterthought: "But don't let it happen again!" - Contributed by Sandra L. Caron

Loving Sight Unseen
girls pregnant
Ashley and Emily
This month, I just might have two very special valentines, another granddaughter and a grandson. Two of my daughters are pregnant and they could both deliver in the month of February. One of the babies could even have a "leap year" birthday! We are all excited about the coming births, and praying for safe deliveries. Ella Faith is scheduled first and then comes Cooper James. I really like his middle name, and I will love both of them. Kids are a great gift from God. In Psalm 127:3-4 we read, "Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from him. Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior's hands." (NLT) On Valentine's Day, we think of ways to express our love--and it's a good thing to do. But really, we should be doing it all the time. God loves us and has given us a multitude of gifts, like children, rain, sunshine, friendship, a Savior, talents, our senses, joy, laughter, emotions, life, family, salvation, eternal life and love. So, since we have received so much love, "let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God." (1 John 1:7, NLT) Jesus gave us the commandment to "...Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another." (John 13:34 NIV) So, expressing love on Valentine's Day and year 'round is a good thing and a requirement for all Christians, especially loving grandkids!

With five locations around Southern California and three in the Phoenix area, this could be an affordable option for someone in your church. Rod Wilson is the president and would love to share more about this ministry with you or your church. Contact Rod (rodnmar11@yahoo.com).

CB Chaplainschaplain
Al Russell, Director of the CB Chaplaincy shared about our 125 chaplains at the CB National Board Meeting in Portland this past month. Al shared that our CB chaplains have a reputation of being "the cream of the crop."  One military chaplain led eight soldiers to the Lord by noticing the smoking area was at the extreme end of a large camp. He got permission to build an enclosed deck with free coffee and cigars. The catch was that everyone who used it, had to stay for the Bible Studies! Al is also involved in the formation of a chaplainallaince whose purpose is to defend and maintain the religious liberty and freedom of expression and conscience that the Constitution guarantees to our chaplains and those whom they serve. The recent repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," coupled with the lack of clearly established boundaries regarding religious liberty protections, are leading to confusion and forced censorship.
