Lists
It seems like at the end of the year and at the beginning of the new one, the lists show up...the best and the worst of the previous year and the personal goals for individuals for the coming year. I must confess, I like to read the lists, which is why you may find a bunch of them in this month's newsletter. I also made a list of gifts I would like to give to God this coming year, as each member of my family does this time of year. We look back at the gifts we wanted to give to Jesus last year and then write down some gifts for the coming year. Last year I wanted to read the four gospels, over and over; reach out to our neighbors; weekly date my wife; weekly call my kids; keep track of books read; expand my opportunities; and learn Spanish. I didn't learn Spanish, but did read 34 books (favorite one was "Radical" by David Platt), the gospels and the epistles. I had 18 neighbors over for a Christmas dessert night, dated my wife, and kinda call my kids weekly, but mostly my daughters. I need to work on calling my son and sons-in-law. I made a new list for 2012 and away we go. It's not bad to set some goals for the coming year. What gift can you give Jesus this year? Do not merely be hearers of the word, do what it says. (James 1:20)
Happy New Year!

1,700 Led To Christ
|
Hal Seed |
Through the ministries of New Song Community Church in Oceanside, at least 1,700 people came to proclaim Christ as their Lord and Savior in 2011. Pastor Hal Seed said these salvations came through a variety of ministries. He writes...
"Over 800 came to Christ on our short-term missions trips. At least one teen has come to Christ in our youth ministries every week. Our Spanish Congregation is seeing at least one come to Christ every week. Our satellite in Bonsall is averaging a salvation a week. 94 children came to Christ at KidsCamp (our VBS), and many others during our weekend PromiseLand services. The rest have come in worship services, at funerals, and in one-on-one conversations between members and their friends.

Small Church, Big Check
LakeHills Community Church in Lake Elsinore has less than 100 in attendance, but also hosts a Celebrate Recovery (CR) program which has almost as many people attending on Monday nights. An older couple recently started attending the church and gave a $3,000 check in the offering. Pastor Dave Metzger said, "They said they had heard what LakeHills was doing with CR and they wanted to say thank you." |
Survey Completed
CBSC recently asked Focus on Decisions, a company which provides corporate assessment management tools, to conduct a survey to assess what needs our churches wanted us to help them meet. Ken Lane of Focus on Decisions said they mailed the questionaire to 117 Pastors and received a 28 percent response. Here are the top 4 needs according to the survey:
1. Pastoral Transition and Placement 2. Mentor Groups (tied) 3. Legal Assistance (tied)
4. Church Planting

CB Church Planting 2012
The CBSC Board has voted to make church planting a major focus in 2012. It is our goal to see at least 3 new churches started in Southern California by the end of 2012. Executive Director Jim Smith has already been in discussions regarding potential plants in Ventura, San Bernardino and San Diego Counties. We pray that these and more will become a norm through the efforts of our CB churches and our association. Join us in prayer and financial support towards these new plants.

God's Still Small Voice
Former CB Pastor in Vista, CA, Richard Phillips, is now working as a hospital chaplain in Oceanside with Healthcare Chaplains Ministry Association. He shares this story of another chaplain who "felt led to come to the hospital even though she was not scheduled to be there. She responded to a consultation order to visit a patient. She had a good ministry of encouraging conversation, scripture reading and prayer for this Christian. As the chaplain was leaving, another lady in the room said, "I'm recently here from Burma and I have been Buddhist,
but after listening to you I would like to become a Christian. Would you show me what to do to be a
Christian?" God was leading the heart of this patient to discover the reality of knowing God through Jesus
Christ our Lord. The chaplain shared the Gospel and the lady came to trust in Christ as her Savior!" Praise God. You can contact Richard at
