On the Glendora road to Mt.Baldy

NEVER DONE THAT

Every once in awhile, it's good to do something new. Vicki and I took a drive through the mountains the other day. We had never been on the winding road from Glendora to Mount Baldy, so on Valentine's Day, we took a late afternoon drive through the mountains. It was fun. Next, I think we will take the Angels Flight in Downtown LA.  It's billed as the shortest Railroad in the World. And It's only 25 cents. We've never done that either. Even in church, try doing something new. Be willing and excited to try something new.

Thanks for reading our newsletter, and don't forget to attend our Annual Meeting on March 6, especially if you've never done it before. If you can't come, tell others to go in your place.

Sincerely,

Jim Smith

Wild Trip to Egypt

egyptOur CB church in Manhattan Beach just finished a year long study of Exodus and planned a trip to Egypt in February. Encouraged by their study of Exodus, 34 members of Journey of Faith took off for a memorable trip through Egypt. Two days after arriving in Egypt, the unrest became violent. Bill Ingram, chief of staff at Journey of Faith, suddenly became more concerned about the groups safe trip out of Egypt, than seeing all the planned sites. After machine gun escorts, overnights in strange places, long hours at the hectic and crowded airport, they managed to get safely home. It ended up being a memorable trip in more ways than they planned. Welcome home.

Riverside Assessment

Stan with senior citizen focus group

Fellowship Baptist Church had CB Southern Calfornia take them though an assessment during the month of February.  The entire church was able to take an online survey, plus several discussion groups were scheduled as well, to give an opportunity to personally share information. On Sunday, February 20, Stan Rieb, from CBAmerica, gave the church the results of the assessment report, including church affirmations, observations and prescriptions. CB Southern California will work closely with Fellowship Baptist as they work through the prescriptions they received from the assessment. If you are interested in having an assessment done for your church, let us know at cbministries@cbasc.com or call 909.944.5900.

Pacific Coast Church Office Relocates Again

pacific coast
Pacific Coast Church has a great location just off Interstate 5 in San Clemente and averages over 1,000 people every weekend. Pastor Mark Ambrose has a fine staff and volunteers to lead their many different ministries. Their offices, however, are off campus and have been in several different locations over the past decade. Just over a year ago, after the landlords refused to renegotiate their rental agreement, they moved again to yet another and better building, several miles away from the worship center. So, if you ever want to drop by and say hi, call first for directions to their offices.

His wife, Zita, had flown out earlier to get things ready. He still enjoys watching his favorite sports teams and will still root for the Lakers, Ducks and the Angels. Their new address is 10185 Park Meadows Drive #201, Lone Tree, Colorado 80124. First Baptist West LA voting to Merge

frsOn Sunday, March 13, FBC West LA will vote on whether or not to merge with Shoreline Community Church in LA. Shoreline is a vibrant growing church plant that started about five years ago and has a young congregation, two teaching Pastors and no building. They currently are meeting in a Regent Theatre in West LA. First Baptist Church West LA has a building but no Lead Pastor. Both churches serve nearby communities. West LA has been without a Lead Pastor for over a year, but has not been looking for a Senior Pastor while this possibility was being considered.

CB Chaplaincy Stories

military

American soldiers are committing suicide at record rates -- a rate that is now at a three-decade high, the highest since the military first began tracking suicides within its ranks. The Army suicide rate surpassed that for civilians for the first time since the Vietnam War. The National Guard leaders want the chaplains to stem the tide of suicide. Pray for our CB chaplains as they deal with many soldiers struggling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. A chaplain in Colorado recently conducted a graveside service for the wife of a commander who had committed suicide a week before Christmas. He writes about the difficulty of kneeling before the three children to share with them answers why Mom wasn't coming home. A week later, he dealt with the situation of a 24-year-old soldier returned from the war zone who also committed suicide. His mother had put him out of the house because of his lifestyle, and when he told her he was thinking of killing himself she told him, "Why don't you just do it." So he did. Pray for our CB Chaplains in the military, hospitals and music industry
