 Tell The World
Emma Grace Durso has entered the world! I remember my mom and mother-in-law always pulling out pictures of their grandkids and proudly telling anyone interested of all their acomplishments. I have now joined the ranks of "proud grandparents telling people about their grandkids." Hang with me for a little bit... Emma came on Thursday, July 15, 11 days early, but after 25 hours of labor. Weighing in at only 6 pounds 12 ounces, she is the joy of my daughter, Ashley, and son-in-law, Eric Durso, who is the Associate Pastor of FBC in Fallbrook.
Funny how we talk so much about our favorite interests, like grandkids and the Lakers, but aren't so quick to talk about our faith to those around us. Did you know that here in America, only 2% of church members invited an unchurched person to church last year, 90% of our churches aren't growing and 50% didn't have a single person come to Christ. However, thousands are still coming to Christ everyday. In his book, "Inside the Revolution," Joel Rosenburg writes about one former Muslim lady who daily leads 15 people to Christ, that's right, an average of 15 each day. Tom Mercer has an excellent little book called "Oikos," which talks about how his little church in the High Desert of Southern California grew to thousands by just encouraging his church members to talk about their faith to the 8-15 people they see every day in their world.
Jesus said that we will be his "witnesses." (Acts 1:8) So talk about your favorite interests, your family, hobbies, sport teams and your faith in Jesus. It's what we are supposed to do.
Have a great day.

Fil-Am's Very Special BaptismFil-Am Christian Fellowship in Long Beach was filled with excitement as Pastor Pol Pili baptized eight new believers early this year. One of the most exciting moments came when Pastor Pol baptized his older brother, whom he had long prayed would come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Pastor Pol's brother, "Bert," was followed by his entire family in baptism. |
Mountain View Bible Growing
Pastor Eric Motl |
Pastor Eric Motl has to admit that he is thankful to see so many in attendance at Mountain View Bible Church in Alpine, CA just east of San Diego. Numbers aren't everything, but they are something when God gets the glory. "In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group numbering about a hundred and twenty)." Acts 1:15; "Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day." Acts 2:41 (see also Acts 2:47; 4:4) A year and a half ago, this church plant began with 85 members. On July 18, they had 132! That is a 64% increase. They have moved into their new rented facilities and have rennovated them to meet their needs.

Donovan and Heather | CB Youth Pastor going to South Africa
Donovan Drew, the former Youth Pastor at Bethel Grace, a CB church in Bellflower, is going back home. He is orginially from South Africa and came to study at the Master's College. He and his wife, Heather, (a BIOLA graduate) met at Bethel Grace. They are now being sent out by Bethel Grace this September to be missionaries in Pretoria, South Africa, where they will serve as the Directors of Orphan Ministry for 1Hope. 1Hope is a ministry to orphans and refugees. With AIDS, poverty, refugees and orphans all around, the need for mercy ministry in South Africa is incredible! If you would like to hear more and perhaps be interested in supporting them, here are some links that would be helpful: The Drews' Website: http://drewsministry.wordpress.com/ The church they will be joining: http://livinghopechurch.co.za/index.php

Pastor Dave | Raised $15,000
Redeemer Church of La Mirada was the host church for the " Race4Refuge" 5K walk-a-thon with four other La Mirada churches raising funds to support a Refuge House in the Philippines for those escaping the horrors of sex trafficking. Pastor Dave Sunukjian and the other area Pastors wanted to do something to help fight the injustice around the world. It's hard to believe, but there are many forms of slavery still around the world. Child sex slavery is specifically one of the most appalling. International Justice Mission is working to fight this sin, and has built safe houses around the world. Redeemer Church and the other La Mirada churches chose one safe house in the Philippines to help. |
Pine Summit Receives High Praise
Good things are happening at Pine Summit this summer. Besides all the fun in the pool and all over Pine Summit, lives are being changed for all eternity. 42 were saved this past week with another 18 spiritual decisions made. The following are email excerpts from recent groups using our camp:
"I cannot tell you what this past week meant to us! I don't have one complaint, and I don't have one suggestion of how your team could do things better. We are so grateful for your help and effort in making it such a successful week.
Throughout the week, we had approximately 23 young people trust Christ as Saviour. We had another 20 surrender their lives to ministry, with the intent to serve the Lord with their lives and futures. Hundreds, perhaps thousands, of other important decisions were made. As with every group of young people in today's culture, we had many teenagers from broken homes who have endured deep trials and heavy burdens. This week was a breath of fresh air and a wonderful experience in the irresistible love of Christ. I am eager and excited about working on next year."
-Cary Schmidt, Lancaster Baptist
"Thank you for going out of your way in serving us and doing everything possible for us to have the best VBS. The service that you provided by catering our food showed the love of Christ and our kids were able to witness it in first person. I remember one of the kids saying, "she is so nice and friendly." The boat ride was so much fun, not only for our kids, but also for our staff. I can really say that this was the best VBS in Podowon history. We want to say thank you to you and all the friendly staff that was there to serve us and also our one and only God. We are looking forward to returning to Pine Summit in the near future."
-Matthew Kim, Podowon Baptist Church |

Creative Youth Trip Nick Greenwood took his San Clemente Cornerstone Community Church's youth group on a "D-Tour" (Discipleship Tour) camping trip from San Francisco back to San Clemente. They did video interviews (10-15) in San Francisco; free hugs (70) in Monterey; help for some groups in Santa Maria (found a Salvation Army kitchen to help); free Prayer and Popsicle booth (44) on Venice Beach; and another ministry project once they got home (helped at the library for free) which was the main point of the trip, doing ministry where you live. It was a fun and great learning experience. |
