You have the time to do it Often I think I have too much to do and not enough time. Well, managing our time well can accomplish much. Solomon tells us that "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven." (Ecc. 3:1)Vicki and I have just finished a very busy month. To begin with, Ed and I have been spending part of every week up at camp and Vicki has been traveling down to San Clemente see our grandson, and his parents. While up at Pine Summit, I stay in various rooms that are available and live out of my suitcase. I had an invitation to speak in Green Lake, Wisconsin, and when my former church in Beloit, through facebook, heard that I was close, they invited me to speak one Sunday while I was in WI. My mom, who lives near Detroit, fell down the basement stairs and ended up in the hospital, so while I was in WI, she suggested I should fly over to Detroit to visit her. Of course, I was not going to pass this opportunity up. Since we were near Chicago and my son is at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, we thought we should visit him. Since our former Pine Summit Director John Welch is now directing the Salvation Army's Camp Wonderland in Southern Wisconsin, I thought I should stop by and see him. The same week, Hope Again was having their Walk-A-Thon and First Baptist Church in West LA was finishing their assessment, of which I was part of the team. Finally, I wanted to plan some time with my wife, Vicki, who celebrated her birthday the Sunday I was at FBC West LA. I had promised to take her away for a few days to celebrate, and after the assessment, I did. So, in a ten-day period, I actually did everything that was planned. We can make time to do the things we feel are important. Managing time well can accomplish much. Paul mentioned that we should be "making the most of every opportunity." (Eph. 5:16) I didn't watch much TV--the average household watches eight hours and 14 minutes--but I did finish a couple of books on the plane. I do have to catch up on a few TV shows. So, manage your time well and you can accomplish much.

| West LA Assessment | On Sunday, April 25, Stan Rieb, from the Rocky Mountain CBA and CBAmeria National offices, reported to Executive Pastor Jim Leonard and the leadership of First Baptist of West LA the findings of the Assessment study team, consisting of Stan, Ed Reingrover and Jim Smith. Members of the congregation had opportunities to share opinions through focus groups and an extensive survey. Results will help the church to see improved health, focus and vision for the future, along with assisting them in setting goals in order to prepare for the search for their new Senior Pastor. The study took about two months to complete. Assessments are available to all churches through CB Southern California.

| Pine Summit | Thank You
Maintenance worker Cary Steinbacher stands by 28 batteries donated to Pine Summit. In April, we sent out an appeal for some golf cart batteries and a video projector needed at Pine Summit. We didn't have the money to get these necessary items but God answered our request in an amazing way. Someone read our need and knew his neighbor had some new batteries he was trying to get rid of. He got us in touch with his neighbor who donated the 28 batteries!!! Most of them worked. Thank you, Lord, and thank you, fellow readers. We also received at least one smaller video projector we can use in our smaller rooms. We still need a new projector for our chapel, but have received an inquiry about helping with this need.
Cooks Needed Pine Summit is looking for two Christian cooks to work at camp this summer. Please call camp at 909.866.5801. We also still need college students to work up at camp in many other areas like kitchen, recreation, housekeeping and more. Online application if interested. |
| Walk of Hope | Barb Golike, from First Baptist Church Fallbrook, joins others in the Walk of Hope fundraiser for Hope Again on Saturday, April 24. Hope Again raised over $20,000 toward their ministry of serving the poor, homeless and disenfranchised in the Hollywood area for Christ by bringing a message of hope with a home for women, a home for men and a safe haven for women with children.
|
| Community Impact | Pastor Ed Carey of Hope International Church in Hollywood stands with one of the many volunteers that help collect, sort and distribute more than one ton of food per day received from Trader Joe's and other supermarkets in the Hollywood area four times a day. Bread is free and available just outside the church door all day long. They have a fantastic ministry to the community and are willing to host groups interested in helping them.

Have a great day and thanks for reading our newsletter. For those who have pets, here's some trivia. A cat's night vision is six times better than a human's. Most dogs don't like to be left alone, so they howl. Leaving the radio on might help. When a cat gets stuck in a tree, put an open can of food at the bottom and they will find their way down in a couple of hours.
Sincerely,
Jim Smith CB Southern California
