Finish it
My wife, Vicki, graduated from Moody 31 years ago, but at that time, Moody was only a three-year Bible school. Since 1986, it has been issuing degrees to all its graduates. But when we graduated, it was only giving diploma's--you had to go to other schools to finish your degree program. Vicki took some courses from Trinity University and Beloit College before kids, ministry and life slowly gobbled up her time. Recently, she contacted Moody and found out that with a few classes from our local community college (Chaffey) and some online classes from Moody, she could finish her long awaited degree. So the day after we dropped off our son Andy at Moody, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biblical Studies from Moody. Way to go, sweetie! Along the way, she was able to get a crash course in the current lifestyle of college students. Her determination inspired me to get working on finishing my doctorate. Is there something you've left undone in your life that you can finish with a little effort and time. What's stopping you? "The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto you." (Zechariah 4:9) Zerubbabel's assignment was to rebuild the Temple. They went through the first stage - rebuild the altar and the second stage - laid the foundation of the Temple. Just after the second stage, opposition came, crops failed and the economy flattened.. Sound familar? At times we have unfulfilled dreams, uncompleted goals, dead visions and half-built projects. With God's help, you can do it! Don't give up, finish it!

Pastor Appreciation Month
Clergy Appreciation Month is a great opportunity for congregations to honor their pastors and pastoral families for the hard work, sacrificial dedication and multiple blessings provided by these special people. It is typically scheduled in October, but can be held at any time that is convenient for the church and the community. Take some time to give some special attention to your Pastors. Take them out for a meal, give them a gift card or fix their car. It is also important to remember that appreciation, affirmation and prayer support of our spiritual leaders is appropriate throughout the entire year. Free Movie Previews
Jim Britts is a CB Youth Pastor at New Song Church in Oceanside, CA and a friend of mine. Last year, he wrote a screenplay, and he and several others in the church teamed up with a professional cast and crew from Hollywood to produce the film, "To Save a Life." The film is releasing in nearly a thousand theatres this January, and they are currently doing preview screenings all over the country for people that work with teens. There are two main web sites for the film: 1) www.tosavealifemovie.com - for students to see the trailer and pass on to their friends, and
You also can go directly to their web page to sign up for a preview screening when the film comes to your area. Thousands of youth workers and students have seen the film already and have rated it a 9.0/10 on average. This is also an excellent opportunity to reach out to other local youth pastors, principals, ASB Advisors or others that work with youth and invite them to the screening with you.

Church Culture
Frequently terminated leaders say, "This really caught me out of the blue. I truly didn't see it coming. I still really don't know what happened." Often they say something like, "Everything was going so well. All of the sudden everything seemed to spin out of control and within a month or two I had been fired." A church's real values and culture are found in how time and budget are spent and how people are treated and rewarded. A church's expressed values are frequently very different from its real values. Often a leader's mistake in assessing church culture is in doing more listening than observing. Andrew Carnegie once said, "As I grow older, I pay less attention to what men say. I just watch what they do." Assessing the culture of an organization can be somewhat akin to nailing Jell-O to the wall. It is a "soft" skill in the sense that empirical data does not tell the whole story. Nevertheless a leader's potential is profoundly impacted by their grasp of this "tribal knowledge." To take a quick assessment of your church's culture.
