Openings for Fall 2012 Infant and Toddler Groups
In our infant and toddler groups, the children play together and are supervised by Early Childhood staff while the parents sit nearby talking together with the group leaders. All groups are led by professional experts trained in early childhood development. An exceptionally high staff-to-participant ratio allows for
individualized attention. Groups meet once a week, in an informal, nurturing and educational environment for play and discussion.
If you are interested in our toddler or infant groups please fill out our pre-registration form: Online Pre-Registration Form
For more information on our groups please reach out to us by

ECPC is pleased to announce that we were awarded a $33,000 grant from the Angell Foundation for our Outreach Program. This grant will enable us to provide parenting and mental health services to homeless families. Many of these mothers and fathers have never had parental role models themselves, and providing them with key parenting skills is essential for the well being of the whole family. As we completed another year of our Outreach Program we are happy to see the valuable tools our parents have learned:
M-mother of a 2 year old daughter. "I leaned to be more patient, think about Alana's feelings first."
D-mother of a 2 year old son: "...more wisdom and how to cope with temper tantrums and learning how to sit through his crying stages."
G-mother of a 3 year old son: "I learned to have a lot more patience and understanding of the different stages he is going through."

Sushi & Sake Event Recap
Thank you to Richard and Agnes Thaler for hosting a Sushi/Sake party at their lovely home in Santa Monica on May 19, 2012.
The party featured food and sake provided by Takao restaurant of Brentwood. Takao himself was in attendance to prepare the fabulous sushi for all of guests. The dynamic entertainment was provided by a taiko drumming group from the UCLA taiko club. 65 friends and supporters of ECPC attended and all had a wonderful evening.
The event raised $5,000 to support the parenting groups and counseling services of ECPC. We very much appreciate the dedication and commitment of Richard and Agnes.

Estate Planning Information As many of our ECPC families may already know, the estate tax laws are changing on December 31st of this year. This makes 2012 a year of great opportunity to structure your estate plan to best take care of your loved ones; both individuals and organizations! By properly structuring your estate plan in 2012, you can take advantage of the largest estate tax exemptions in the history of the tax itself! We will be happy to discuss these 2012 opportunities with you and how you can maximize tax-efficient wealth transfers to your loved ones and the organizations you care most about.
Please contact Janet Schulman, our Interim Executive Director at 323-578-6268 for more information. Thank you for your continued support of ECPC. |

Traveling With Young Children
|
| |
|
Traveling with young children can be exciting and sometimes challenging. Children as young as 6 months have probably become attached to their physical environment; therefore, a change in sleeping and living conditions can be disorienting and may result in cranky behavior. In addition, interactions with well-meaning relatives with whom the child has had limited contact with can be overwhelming. It may also be frustrating for the relative who feels that the child is not responding to his or her overtures, as some children need more time to warm-up to others, even if they are relatives.
Establishing a consistent routine, both with sleeping and eating, is very important for young children, as traveling can throw off their schedule. Here are some ways to make these changes a little less stressful for your child and for your family.
· Begin to talk to your child about a week before the vacation in
anticipation of the change. It would help to make a book or an album with pictures of the relatives you will see or of the sites you are planning to visit.
· Take something along with you that your child is attached to, such as a toy
or a blanket that he sleeps with or uses for comfort. Also, take some favorite foods that your child is familiar with.
· As with adults, it can take 2 or 3 days for a child to adjust to scheduling
changes. If you can relax, your child will eventually relax too.
· The most important thing to remember is to put words to your child's
experience so that he can understand that this is a temporary situation and that he will eventually be returning to his home environment.
