Fusing Tuesdays
BCA artist Mary Johannessen is
offering glass art classes in her studio this summer and
BCA members are eligible for a 20% discount.
Fusing Tuesdays will introduce you to the process of fusing glass as you create
one-of-a-kind sun catchers, picture frames, garden stakes, and pendants. Topics
covered include: glass cutting, tools, and properties of glass and how it
"fuses" information on kilns, glass drilling, grinding, and
polishing. Each class highlights a different glass-fusing process. No
experience necessary!
Garden Stakes:Practice cutting! There will be plenty of
scrap glass available to try out various cutting tools and, just to keep
the stress level to a minimum, glass will be precut for the project of the
day. Using an Exacto knife, you will carve fiber paper to create a mold.
When the glass is set on the mold and fired in the kiln, it will form a
relief of the mold. Tuesday, July 7 from 9 am to noon or 6 to 9 pm.
Sun Catchers and Ornaments: Glass and color! Discover
how opaque and transparent glasses transform in the heat of the kiln as
you create three sun catchers or ornaments. Choose your colors and
practice cutting glass, or choose from an assortment of pre-cut pieces.
Tuesday, July 14 from 9 am to noon or 6 to 9 pm.
Picture Frames:Designing in glass! Learn how glasses
react with one another and how that reaction affects the design, as you
create a petite picture frame. We'll add some copper wire and foil to spice
up the process. Tuesday, July 28, from 9 am to noon, or 6 to 9 pm.
Pendants: Instant gratification! Create a trio of
adorable pendants using precut glass. Satin cord will be included for each
piece. If you'd like to add more style to your finished work, jewelry
findings will be available for a small fee. August 4 from 9 am to noon, or 6 to 9 pm.
Each 3-hour class, including materials, is $85 ($68 for BCA members).
Email Mary Johannessen (mary@studio200glass.com) to learn more and to
register.
All pieces will be available for pick-up three days after the class.

Mixed Media Digital Printing
 Word
comes from Mary Taylor (Bedford Library Gallery show and artist's talk, Fall
2008) that space remains in the Mixed Media Digital
Printmaking Workshop to be held in her Marshfield studio on Wednesday and
Thursday, July 8 and 9, from 9 to 5 each day.
The workshop is limited to six
participants, who will explore and experiment with many fine-art digital
printmaking processes, as described in her book Digital Art Studio and DVD,
Beyond the Digital Print.
Mary invites artists who want to go beyond the plain digital print by
using fine art papers, collage materials, and non-traditional media. Through
focused experimentation, participants learn new techniques that are
complementary to their existing skills.
Fee: $350 including most materials.
