The sun rises. The sun sets. And Chris Port and Jeff Keppen's team at CB Richard Ellis keeps leasing lots of office space.

Port and colleague Katherine Lynch have Three Ravinia at 91 percent leased, with Access Insurance moving its HQ into 78,000 square feet at the 800,000-square-foot Central Perimeter tower next month. Harrison Morris at Grubb & Ellis represented the insurance holding company. Other recent Three Ravinia deals include Alcan Cable renewing for a full floor in a direct transaction, Digitel leasing 7,300 square feet and Friend, Hudak & Harris leasing 11,316 square feet. Russ Jobson of Colliers International represented Digitel, while Kevin Creel of CresaPartners represented Friend, Hudak & Harris. Port and Lynch represent Colonial Properties Trust at Three Ravinia.

"It's an A+ asset with great amenities and a really good looking leasing guy," Port said.

In the 'burbs, Keppen and Grand worked with Dale Lewis at Carter to secure Better World Books for 12,800 square feet and renewed The Shaw Group in a direct deal for 15,000 square feet at Great Oaks in Alpharetta. Lewis has been on a roll lately, himself, representing the Atlanta Opera in its renewal and expansion for office and rehearsal space at Atlanta Technology Center on Northside Drive. Andy Sumlin of Barry Real Estate Services represents ATC owner LeCraw Development.

King Crunches the Numbers
King Industrial Realty

Sim Doughtie, president of King Industrial Realty, crunched the numbers a few weeks ago and liked what he saw - or at least liked it a lot better than what he's seen in the past year or two.

King wrapped up 45 deals in August accounting for approximately 300,000 square feet of industrial space, not a bad month. King's Steve Ratchford and Neal Shiver led the way, with Ratchford representing Just Pallets & Crates for 40,000 square feet on Patton Drive and Shiver representing Mobile Moving & Storage for 16,630 square feet in Alpharetta. Peyton McWhirter at McWhirter Realty represented ownership in the Just Pallets transaction, and Watt Neal of Wilson, Hull & Neal represented ownership in the Mobile Moving & Storage deal.

Would Doughtie like the deals to be bigger and more profitable? Of course he would. It's his job, but the volume topped the two previous month's totals of 29 and 30 closed transactions, as well as August 2009's total of 34. King's initial third-quarter research also points to a 1.5 million-square-foot increase in leasing volume over the second quarter.

Like a lot of real estate executives, Doughtie expects some turnover with next month's elections.  "Once you get past the election, you'll have some of that uncertainty diminish," Doughtie said.

Never Saw It Comin'

Those poor, defenseless sporting clays had it comin' Tuesday when the Covington-Newton County Chamber of Commerce, Pattillo Industrial Real Estate, TPA Realty Services and Snapping Shoals EMC hosted a shootout at Burge Plantation in Newton County. With the event, the hosts promoted various I-20 East corridor developments, including Pattillo's Lockridge Industrial Park in Covington and TPA's Stanton Springs near Social Circle. King Industrial's Robb Draughon was the day's big winner, taking home an over/under 20-gauge shotgun.

Look out! With the knowledge gained from lunch with Jones Lang LaSalle's Clark Gore and Rick Gove of The Gove Network, Rooster's Jennifer Cummings may take over the world. Or need a nap after One Star Ranch's massive, Flintstones' style beef ribs.

What makes clear heights, ESFR, column spacing and dock doors even more exciting? Talking industrial over a frosty beverage with the Rooster next Thursday -- that's what.  Many thanks to our sponsors, First Industrial Realty Trust, ARCO Design/Build, McDonald Development, DCT Industrial Trust and Pattillo Industrial Real Estate.  We'll see our industrial peeps there.
