HQ on the Move
A look at the Georgia-Pacific Center in Downtown.
Georgia-Pacific Center is closing in on adding another headquarters to the tenant mix as CoreNet Global nears a deal to relocate.
CoreNet moved its HQ Downtown in 2002 with a 10-year deal at Richard Bowers & Co.'s 260 Peachtree. The global corporate real estate organization occupies a full floor at 260 Peachtree and plans to take approximately 8,000 square feet at G-P Center, reducing its tenancy by one-third. According to information provided at CoreNet's Global Summit last week in Phoenix, the move is expected to produce cost savings of $500,000 for the organization, which plans to move in time for next year's Atlanta Global Summit. JCI is representing CoreNet.
Also, with its focus on corporate real estate and the corporate workplace, CoreNet intends to partner with members to create a 21st Century open and collaborative space for its employees and membership. The relocation and transformation is part of a broader initiative implemented by CEO Angela Cain, who joined CoreNet in February.
Jones Lang LaSalle's Glenn Aspinwall and Jeff Frantz lead leasing efforts at the 1.1 million-square-foot Downtown landmark.

Renaissance Man's Library Deal Master of all media, Gene Kansas of Gene Kansas Commercial Real Estate. Gene Kansas runs his eponymous real estate firm and masters new media, whether it's blogging, Twitter or any other Internet and social media application. Lately, though, Kansas finds himself involved in more mature media, including radio and books.
Kansas represented the owners of Bolton Village at Bolton Road and James Jackson Parkway in securing an Atlanta-Fulton County Library branch at the west side property. David Todd of CB Richard Ellis represented the tenant. In 2008, Fulton County voters approved a $275 million bond issuance for new and improved libraries, including new branches for rapidly gentrifying areas like the Bolton Road location.
Kansas also is preparing to launch his radio show, "Sidewalk Radio," on AM 1690, the Voice of the Arts. Rooster anxiously anticipates Thursday's launch party - preceding Monday's first broadcast - where Boyd Coons, executive director of the Atlanta Preservation Center, and Michael Gamble, Georgia Tech architecture professor, join forces with legendary Clermont Lounge performer Blondie to discuss one of Atlanta's great cultural legacies, the Clermont Hotel. Blondie will also read poetry, and we hear she has something special planned for the Rooster. The first "Sidewalk Radio" episode airs October 4 at 8:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. |
CCIM's International Perspective
Barry Howell of Prudential Real Estate Investors, Toni Meyer-Walker of TriMont Real Estate Advisors, Manish Bhatia of KanAm America and Zeb Bradford of Metzler Realty Advisors. We learned a lot from CCIM's Thursday morning panel on foreign investment in the U.S., but, most importantly, when TriMont Real Estate Advisors Senior VP Toni Meyer- Walker tells you, "I'm here because you're special," it's not "special" in a good way. It means you owe a bunch of money to one of TriMont's overseas bank clients.
Also, KanAm's Manish Bhatia gave us a good clue for following the giant German fund's investment strategy. "If there's a direct Lufthansa flight, we'll invest there," Bhatia joked. |

Regus'
2002 Perimeter Summit suites were flush with brokers for Thursday's
casino night. High roller Jim Kobal of KW Commercial took the grand
prize, a trip to Las Vegas. Carla Bass of CBDO Real Estate and Paul
Theileke of Paulson Investment Co. each won 52-inch poker tables and
chip sets.

Rooster at the Zoo
Because you never know who you'll run into at the zoo... Jackson Oats Shaw's Ryan Hoyt and John McClintock.
For whatever reason, Zoo Atlanta doesn't have any roosters as far as we could tell, but that didn't stop us from attending the third-anual Jazzoo fund raiser Saturday night. Proceeds from the event benefit the zoo's access programs, which ensure that children and schools can experience all that Zoo Atlanta has to offer. Vantage Realty's Gene Rice and Chris Carter, as well as wives Isabel and Lane, co-chaired the event, along with Turner Broadcasting's Jason Heslep.

benefit in Newnan last week. Chaired by Atlantic Capital Bank's Walt Deriso, the
Pulling for the Kids event was held at Cousins' Blalock Lakes to
benefit the children of the Marcus Autism Center, an affiliate of
Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Team Deriso came in first, but Team
Real Estate Rooster wasn't far behind with a third place finish.
