In With the Old

We took this picture of CB Richard Ellis' John Ferguson earlier this year, but we're pretty sure he's still smiling.
If you spent your formative years in the Midwest or Northeast, it's feasible a night of Newcastle led to a trip to White Castle, but you may not have heard of Oldcastle, though there's a good chance the company's construction and paving products surround you. Part of Irish conglomerate CRH and a $14 billion company, Oldcastle is consolidating its North American headquarters here in an effort led by CB Richard Ellis Senior VP John Ferguson.
Oldcastle currently operates out of Northridge Center II in the North Fulton submarket and 900 Ashwood Parkway in the Central Perimeter. The CBRE tenant rep team already is out touring buildings with the tenant, seeking a suitable fit for up to 90,000 square feet of office space, but one source tells us renewal and expansion is a possibility as well.
CB Richard Ellis works with Oldcastle across its portfolio in addition to its tenant rep work here in Atlanta. CBRE's Ferguson was unavailable to comment.

Is it October(fest) yet? From left to right: Matt Mason of Legacy Property Group, Greg Rancone of Legacy Property Group, Rooster's Molly White, Sabina Rahaman of Urban Design Group, David Marvin of Legacy Property Group, Lindsay Licata of Der Biergarten and Jamie Green of Legacy Property Group. Just in time for Octoberfest, Downtown's Der Biergarten debuted Tuesday night with a pre-opening party for media and VIPs, including local German dignitaries and a random Lufthansa crew that rolled into town from Frankfurt tired but thirsty. Der Biergarten is the latest addition to Legacy Property Group's Downtown empire, which also includes STATS, Max's Pizza and the Glenn Hotel, among others. The new restaurant is Atlanta's first indoor/outdoor German beer garden and features more than 50 European and American brews.
Der Biergarten - as if you needed an excuse.

31 Million Seconds and Counting ... Jeff Pollock of Pollock Commercial. More than 31 million seconds later, Jeff Pollock has more than a toe hold. To celebrate the first anniversary of Pollock Commercial, Jeff sent an e-mail to clients and friends noting his firm's first 31,536,000 seconds - or one year - in business. No one doubted he'd make it, but starting a commercial real estate firm in the summer of 2009 with one listing sounds daunting.
Actually, it was a great time to do it, Pollock said. Opportunity costs were lower, and, given the state of the economy, more people were available to discuss potential opportunities.
"I feel like it was time to pursue my own entrepreneurial venture," Pollock said. "It just seemed like a natural transition, and the timing was right."
Pollock started his career with The Griffin Co. and later moved on to Parkside Partners with Kyle Jenks. Jenks and Pollock had an amicable split and share a number of listings, including the Hardin Building in Buckhead and Vinings Main. Pollock's also a bit of a techie, serving as technology chairman of the Georgia CCIM chapter and chairman of the ACBR's Data Services Committee.
Pollock now represents a collection of cool in-town properties totaling more than 250,000 square feet, including the fully leased 154 Krog in Inman Park, home of Kevin Rathbun Steak; The Jane in Grant Park; and Studioplex in the Old Fourth Ward. These types of spaces attract Atlanta's hippest - and some of its best - restaurants as well as forward-thinking firms in web design, publishing and advertising, high-tech and consulting. "Atlanta has its own population of small companies that need cool space in a good location," Pollock said.

Hog Heaven
From left to right: Joe Matthews of
ARCO, Shane Neel of ARCO, Field Guide, Brent Weitnauer of Avison Young
and Brad Pope of NAI Brannen Goddard. If only for self preservation, Rooster begs to differ with the Chick-fil-A cows and suggests you eat
more pork. ARCO's hunting
expedition is a good place to start. ARCO Design Build hosted industrial
brokers and owners last week for a wild hog hunt in Dougherty County,
matching hunters' stamina against the less-than-fragrant boars in an
all-night excursion. Look for a menu of pork chops and pulled-pork
sandwiches at our next event. |
