The Inside Scoop on the People & Places that Shape Atlanta Real Estate

Avison Young Makes a Move
Steve Dils
A quick pic we caught of Avison Young's Steve Dils back in February when we stopped in to chat with him about his NFL days.

When Steve Dils joined Avison Young in January to lead its Atlanta office, the veteran real estate executive started off as a one-man show. Over the past six months, the Toronto-based services firm has added a few brokers, most recently Brent Weitnauer and Chip Watson from CB Richard Ellis, but it's about to grow exponentially with the acquisition of Hodges Management and Leasing Co., our sources tell us.

With the near-complete acquisition, Avison Young adds the depth and expertise of Hodges' office and industrial leasing team as well as leasing and management responsibilities for ING Clarion's 18 million-square-foot, $850 million Atlanta portfolio, the majority of which it acquired from M.D. Hodges in 2005. Hodges Management and Leasing Co.'s leasing group, property management, facilities and back-office team totals approximately 30 employees.

Weitnauer and Watson bring their industrial/logistics tenant rep and corporate services expertise to Avison Young, which also added Matt Tritschler from Colliers  last month to lead the firm's Southeast Capital Markets Group.

Dils, executive vice president of Avison Young and former EVP of Grubb & Ellis, declined to comment, and Hodges Management and Leasing executives were unavailable.

Commercial Property Professionals at USO
First Industrial Realty, CB Richard Ellis, Newmark Knight Frank and many others joined Furman and William Wood of Commercial Property Professionals to both welcome US soldiers home and to see them off as they arrive and depart from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

To say we were overwhelmed when we arrived at the Atlanta Airport on Tuesday and Wednesday to check out the CRE support of the USO would be a huge understatement. Hands down, our industry has the efforts beautifully covered.

Every day, multiple flights arrive and depart from our local airport, taking soldiers everywhere from bases as close as North Carolina to ones as far away as Afghanistan.  The USO provides the soldiers in transit with volunteers to assist them along the emotional journey.  From checking and finding their baggage, to locating their departure and arrival gates, to settling them in a lounge with hot meals and internet service for their indefinite wait, the USO is there to help.

On Tuesday, the Atlanta Commercial Board of REALTORS rallied to show their support for the troops, and on Wednesday, Commercial Property Professionals brought in an overwhelming number of supporters for the same.  We were excited to see the chef from The Feed Store in College Park, who cooked and brought in more than 400 meals for the troops yesterday.  What a way to kick off the freedom weekend.  Have a safe and happy fourth!

Lincoln Property Company and Colony Realty Partners know how to transform a tedious Monday night into something special. Lincoln and Colony hosted brokers and spouses at 3405 Piedmont Monday evening, and then finished out the night at Chastain Park with a performance by Sting and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Rascall Flatts Concert
Michelle Vaughn and Stuart Miller of Coro Realty Advisors with Molly White and friends.

'Prayin' for Daylight' is a mantra we don't care to repeat in the real estate market, but to Rascal Flatts fans, it sure was a big hit among other top tunes during Sunday night's lively show. Rooster joined friends from Coro Realty Advisors for the concert at Aaron's Ampitheatre
