The Inside Scoop on the People & Places that Shape Atlanta Real Estate

Crunching the Numbers
Monarch Tower

A distant look at Atlanta's Monarch Tower.

If your research person looks a little dazed and confused today, give them a pat on the back, a hug or, even better, a stack of crisp $100 bills. They've earned it.

Wednesday, the research pros from Carter, Jones Lang LaSalle, Cushman & Wakefield, Bryant Commercial, Colliers and Richard Bowers & Co. gathered at CoStar Group's Monarch Tower offices to pore over first-quarter data for Atlanta's office and industrial properties, reviewing each submarket and nearly every tenant movement and positive and negative absorption in each building of consequence. It's every bit as tedious as it sounds, but the research and data folks keep it as jovial as possible, often at the expense of their CoStar hosts.

The meeting gives CoStar the opportunity to work with services firms' researchers to correct errors in its preliminary quarterly reports and diminish data discrepancies, and it also offers an opportunity to compare notes and methods.

"The sheer scope and size of the Atlanta market makes it difficult to accurately track all tenant movement, but collaboration between the different brokerage firms helps to fill the gaps of certain transactions that may have gone unreported," said Lanie Rea, Jones Lang LaSalle's Research Manager.

What a Difference 48 Hours Can Make
999 Peachtree Before

Outside the Peachtree Club on Monday.

999 Peachtree After
Outside the Peachtree Club last night.

The Rooster stopped in 999 Peachtree on Monday to check out all the current construction, including a complete renovation of the Peachtree Club and the addition of a bocce ball court.  When we heard a tenant event would be hosted less than 48 hours later, we had to stop in and see the finished product.  The outside patio is just incredible, as you can see.  Kudos to Cousins for making it happen!

Team Rooster stopped in Ri Ra on Tuesday night to check out REGA's St. Patty's Day pre-party.  There's no better way to kick off St. Patty's than at one of Atlanta's best Irish pubs with about sixty top CRE professionals from around the city!

Let the Games Begin!

Kent Mason Dunks
Kent Mason slam dunks in the open warehouse!

Watch out for First Industrial's NCAA bracket challenge - they obviously know their basketball.  With a basketball goal and a keg in their 3060 Southpark Road warehouse, they hosted a broker luncheon followed by a basketball challenge.

Adam Richards  of Resource Real Estate Partners took first place and Chris Tomasulo of Jones Lang LaSalle followed closely behind.  Both took home some pretty hefty gift cards for their winnings.  First Industrial's Kent Mason won the one-man slam dunk contest, although he said he'd rather slam a tenant in the space than the ball in the hoop!

St. Patty's Day Celebrations

The Rooster caught three sneaky brokers in Prohibition last night, the swanky Buckhead club you must enter via a phone booth after dialing the non-published, ever-changing access number.  Dave Watson of Grubb & Ellis, Austin McDonald of McDonald Development and Gregg Metcalf of Jones Lang LaSalle broke the code and enjoyed cigars inside.

Rooster bud David Zanaty of AIG shared this photo with us, taken last night at The Bar (yes, that's the name) in Coral Gables, FL.  The St. Patty's celebrations enjoyed by our CRE friends spanned the Southeast last night!  Thanks for sharing the photo, David!
