The Old Gold Club Set to Become the new "Gold Room"

The former site of the Gold Club is bustling with activity yesterday as it prepares for its grand reopening later this month as the Gold Room.
Eight years after federal agents shut down an adult club on Piedmont
Road, new owners have seized what some are calling "a golden opportunity".
The former Gold Club, at the corner of Piedmont and Lindbergh, was closed after its owners confessed to
federal racketeering and fraud, and ironically the next tenant to call the place
home was a church. Complete renovation is currently underway, which
included removal of church décor on the walls, installation of a gold awning
over the main entrance and a giant disco glitter ball hanging from the ceiling
inside.
Not
to be mistaken for its predecessors, the new "Gold Room" will open later this
month as a nightclub and dance spot.
"We'd like to pay
homage to the history of the building," says Gold Room owner Jonathan
Clay. "This is part of Atlanta
nightlife history. It is a landmark. But we are, definitely,
setting out on a different path than the previous establishment." Local neighborhood planning units support
the change in business.

CREW Atlanta Luncheon Rolls a Perfect 10!
Leah Yzerman (Eola Capital), Candy McIntyre (Eola Capital), Chrissy Smith (CREW).
CREW Atlanta (Commercial Real Estate Women of Atlanta) held their
monthly lunch program in the heart of Atlantic Station at Ten Pin
Alley. While no strikes were bowled, the sold-out program featured the
panel discussion topic, "Turnaround with a Twist". The panelists
discussed their thoughts on strong industries that might help start an
economic upswing in Atlanta.
Scott Levitan (Forest City Group), Char Fortune (Grubb & Ellis), Penelope Cheroff (The Cheroff Group).
All in attendance agreed with moderator Char Fortune
that the medical field, education and the government are growing industries. When
Char posed the question "what is your 10 year prediction for Atlanta?",
Scott Levitan said the Beltline will be finished and it will help
reshape transportation for Atlanta. Jim Jacoby is bullish on his
planned development at the old Ford Plant on the southside, which has been renamed
"Aerotropolis". It will be built with alternative energy efforts like
using landfill gas and solar plants. Clark Gore encouraged everyone in closing by remarking, "History repeats itself. We WILL recover."
