Outstanding leadership in development in the Southeast was recognized in style at the Urban Land Institute's Atlanta District Council's Annual Development of Excellence Awards at the popular Georgia Aquarium last Thursday night.
Hundreds of guests mingled alongside whale sharks and manta rays while sipping the glowing blue house "tidal wave" cocktails.
Recognized developments included 44/55
Alan Plaza, Atlanta Botanical Gardens, and Emory University Sustainability Program. Sustainability and contribution to the community were again major
thrusts behind the awards and the developments recognized by the Atlanta
Chapter of ULI. Jeff DuFresne, ULI Atlanta and Tara Makarechi, Jackson Spalding
Regent Partners was the big winner as its
mixed-use office and residential tower on Peachtree in Buckhead was recognized
as the 2009 Development of Excellence Award winner. David Allman, Founder
and Chairman of Regent Partners, accepted the recognition and award on behalf
of the company. Also on hand with David were Reid Freeman, President of
Regent, Jim Feldman, Principal of Development Services, and David Tennery,
Principal of Office Properties.
Another Atlanta real estate legend, Charles Ackerman,
founder & Chairman of Ackerman & Co, was on hand to accept the 2009 Frank
Carter Community Achievement Award. Andrew Young, an American diplomat,
pastor, politician and former City of Atlanta
mayor, was recognized with the Dan Sweat Community Leadership Award.

Cousins Goes Public .... with Art
Artist Marty Dawe with the unveiled surprise, "Landing Gear". The stainless steel sculpture stands almost 15 feet tall!
After several days of heavy rain and
flooding, artist Marty Dawe wasn't the only one happy to see the
cloudless evening sky! Local developers, artists and supporters of
both gathered at Cousins' Terminus 200 building for an outdoor cocktail reception and sculpture unveiling last Thursday.
Friends of the artist and new Rooster friends Chad Renfrow, Sarah Snellgrove and Steve MacLennon
The cocktail party was followed by a panel on the 24th floor where supporters evaluated how to incorporate art into private development, why it is good business for developers, and the importance of art to the community. With support like this, the Public Art in Private Development program just might be our city's near future. |
Golfing for Koozies and a Good Cause
Lady golfers Kelly McGinnis, Jennifer Koontz and Kate Sharp
Young Council of Realtor's Annual Charity Golf Tournament was a sold-out success. A misty morning made way for a beautiful day and the course was packed! Surely it had something to do with the Rooster Media koozies, which made their official debut at our sponsored hole.
Warming up: Hunter Ames, Murray Reavis and John Rooker
A majority of the proceeds from the tournament benefited the Carter Samuel Martin Experimental Research Fund, a non-profit charity that helps to raise awareness with experimental drugs and therapy for children with cancer. Golfing is good; golfing for a cause, even better.
