Capital Morning

Somehow Simon Arpiarian of Kaufman Realty Group was able to maneuver his way into a photo with PR power players Hayley Hutchins (left) and Ansley Fetz (right) of PR firm Jackson Spalding.
You
know a breakfast program is going to be good when the speaker can work Lindsay
Lohan into a discussion of real estate capital markets. Steve
Blank, Urban Land Institute's Senior Fellow of Finance, did just that July 21 at 3344
Peachtree/Sovereign during an event hosted by building owner Regent Partners and
Urban Land Institute.
Blank
assured the audience that the "Lindsay Lohanization of the capital markets has
ended." Not sure what he meant but that HAS to be a good thing!
Steve Blank advised the Obama transition team on issues facing the real estate
industry and he came armed with great data. Blank, with apropos backdrop, also managed to work cartoons into his slide presentation.
In more good news, the finance guru also noted one employer poised for growth - the Federal Deposit
Insurance Corp. (FDIC). With just 6,269 employees right now, the federal
agency is absolutely going to be hiring, said Blank.
Kristi Torgler (Regent Partners), Drew Barnette (Eastdil Secured), Adam Allman (Regent Partners) and Mike McDonald (Eastdil Secured). The breakfast also featured an expert panel comprised
of Tom Coakley, Regional Director with MetLife; Thad Ellis, Senior Vice President, Cousins Properties; and Mike McDonald, Managing Director Eastdil
Secured.
Panelists, from left, Mike McDonald (Easdil Secured); Thad Ellis (Cousins
Properties) and Tom Coakley (MetLife). Apparently, no one sent Coakley the memo about blue ties.

Holy Interest!

International Men of Mystery: AGG's commercial real estate gurus Abe
Schear (above) and Phil Skinner (below) just returned from a whirlwind trip to Israel, where
they discussed U.S. RE deals with potential investors. Great catch Phil!
Arnall Golden
Gregory LLP's Abe Schear and Phil Skinner attended an astounding 25 meetings
over four days during a recent trip to Tel Aviv, Israel - underscoring
tremendous promise in the Promised Land, for U.S. real estate
deals.
Schear and Skinner
made the trip as part of AGG's Israel Team, which they founded with AGG
attorney Shelly Rabinovitch four-and-a-half years ago, to pair Israeli investors
with opportunities in the United States. Since founding the
Israel Team, members of AGG have completed more than 20 trips to the Holy
Land.

The Pulse of Palomar

Stair Master: Hotel Palomar GM Mark Fischer, demonstrating his multitasking prowess, maintains a 25-pound weight
loss by walking the entire 21-story building, top-to-bottom, each day.
Pacci restaurant
at Hotel Palomar is quickly becoming the go-to "power breakfast" spot in
Midtown. The Rooster
recently dined with Palomar GM Mark Fischer to find out how he maintains a
25-pound weight loss (since last April), despite such savory menu temptations as truffled mushroom frittatas and ricotta pancakes with caramelized banana
syrup.
The secret is in
the stairs. Fischer walks the entire 21-story property, top-to-bottom, each day
(including 16 guest hallways). No elevators, only stairs. The walk takes 45
minutes to an hour.
"I also walk the
back of the house to ensure departments are organized and clean, plus it gives
me an opportunity to see the team members on a daily basis," says
Fischer.
Is it only a matter
of time before Hotel Palomar, known for it's "Guppy Love" goldfish
companion program, introduce a "Stairwell-ness" promotion?
