Students Receive Scholarships at May 24 Event
Greater Stark County Urban League's Equal Opportunity Day Luncheon and Annual Meeting was held on May 24th at the Southeast Community Center. As part of the event, three high school students were presented Mercy Medical Minority Student Scholarships by Lorraine Washington, Vice President of Human Resources at Mercy Medical Center.
BreJanee Ball - A senior at Timken High School, BreJanee will be receiving both her high school diploma and an Associate's Degree from Stark State College as a result of the Early college program. She skillfully balances challenging academics including the Upward Bound and Canton Scholars programs, extracurricular activities such as cheerleading, gymnastics, band and student union, working part-time and volunteering. BreJanee has been accepted to Ohio University where she will begin her path to become an Anesthesiologist. BreJanee is the recipient of a $3,500 Mercy Scholarship.
Briana Williams - The recipient of a $1,500 scholarship, Briana not only excels academically, but is a leader among her peers at McKinley High School. When Briana is not involved in athletics and music, Briana can be found participating in the Upward Bound and Project Lead America programs. In her "spare" time, Briana tutors students at the Southeast Community Center. Inspired by her aunt and uncle, Briana plans to be a pharmacist and will begin her studies in Pharmacy at Ashland University this fall.
ShaRayna Oree - A senior at McKinley High School, ShaRayna works hard to balance her studies, volunteer initiatives and track activities. She has found strength in her faith and enjoys being a part of the STEPP and Mime team at her church. ShaRayna is a member of the National Honor Society and has been accepted to The Ohio State University. Inspired by her mother, who is a nurse, ShaRayna plans to major in Premed. She is the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship.
We congratulate these deserving students and thank Mercy Medical for their participation in this year's Scholarship program.
