Greetings!
Welcome to the second edition of the
Inspiration newsletter. Spring has begun
and with it comes rebirth and revitalization. The change in seasons provides a great opportunity
for us to reflect on our own lives and decide how we may want to change. I believe that the financial turmoil facing the world's economy is actually providing us with an opportunity to reconsider our position within the global community.
It
is said that if you always do what you have always done, you will always get what
you always got. Well it appears these
days, that isn't good enough. We are in a time of great change. As Mahatma
Gandhi said "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." In this, the season of spring, the time of
rebirth and clean up, I invite you to
reflect upon your life and begin the process of change - that will not
only help improve yourself and your community, but more importantly, the entire planet.
In my opinion the only way to change your
world is to change the way you think. The short essay I have written this month
is about how we can change our perspective about what is happening in the world
these days. I hope it inspires, awakens
or empowers you in some way. Because, while change can be scary at first, it is often one of the most empowering adventures you can embark upon. Enjoy the journey!
If you wish to contact me please feel free to do so.
Love and Light,

Crisis or Opportunity So, here we are in what many are calling the worst financial
crisis since the Great Depression. Is that really true? Only if you believe it
to be so. It is my belief that our reality comes from our thoughts. If that is
the case, then why are we choosing to listen to the media and others who are
feeding us such gloom and doom? What if the truth is that the economic times we
are currently experiencing is the greatest opportunity we have had in many
years. Why are we so afraid? Most likely, it is the unknown that frightens us
most. (What will happen to my savings, my job, and my family?) Yes, these are
challenging times, but why do we choose to make them worse. It is said that
everything in our Universe is energy including our thoughts and words. If that
is so, we are certainly not helping the current situation by contributing more
negative energy.
I know it is
difficult to stay positive when we see, first-hand, people losing their jobs
and houses, and businesses closing their doors on a daily basis. But, I believe
that, by giving in to the doomsayers we are only making things worse. It is
time to step up to the plate and have courage, conviction and faith. By
changing our energy from worry and fear to creativity and hope we can move out
of the current financial "crisis" much sooner. We have seen that our friends in
the United States have had the courage to elect a very forward thinking, open
and sincere man as their President. No wonder Barak Obama is so popular these
days. He represents that which many of us want to be: courageous, open, honest,
sincere, authentic, consistent and trusting. He has probably been handed the
most difficult task of any world leader in many decades, but we do not see him
complaining, blaming or procrastinating. He makes no promises of miracles, but
sticks to his principles and values and has begun to put into place what he
believes will help his country reestablish itself. What if we adopted the same
positive, forward thinking attitude as Barak Obama?
It is my
belief that if we are able to shift our attitudes it will take less time to
change the current financial situation. What if we worked on staying positive
and trusting that we as a people have the ability to change things? That each
human being on this planet is capable of doing his or her part to make this
world a better place. That no one can be
expected to solve our problems for us, rather we must take personal
responsibility and do our part. You don't have to be the President or Prime
Minister or even a corporate CEO to make a difference in this world. It's time
to take back our power and become leaders in our own world. It's time to stop
blaming, complaining and procrastinating. The only way to do that, in my
opinion, is to stay positive and realize that we are not in a crisis but rather
in a time of great opportunity.
I do not
wish to make light of all the pain and suffering that has come along with these
challenging financial times. Many people have lost their life savings, the
major part of their income or their jobs. Yes, there are many challenges out
there, and we all have a choice as to how we choose to think about what is
happening in our lives and the world around us. This situation reminds me of
childbirth. One of the most beautiful and special things to witness is the
birth of another human being brought forth in to our world. The ultimate
creation. In order to bring that new
baby into this world, the mother had to go through what is said to be the most
painful experience there is. The mother goes through a process called labour in
order to deliver her baby into the world. I would suggest, that in most cases
this is the ultimate labour of love. We too must go through labour in order to
change our world, to make it better. Many believe it has been in slow decay for
many years and now is our opportunity to reverse the process. But the only way to do that, in my
opinion, is to make our labour, our hardships, and our challenges ones of love.
To not lose faith that we who have built this planet up to what it is today can
rebuild it into something even greater for tomorrow. It is time to think of the
generations that will come after us ... we must hand this planet over to them in
much better shape than it was when we came into this world. I believe we must
tear down before we can rebuild. That is why I believe that what we are
currently going through is not a crisis or a disaster but rather a fantastic
opportunity! The greatest opportunity we have had in many years. They say you don't
have to fix something if it's not broken and I guess many of us thought our
world wasn't broken. But now many are beginning to believe that is not the
case. We must begin to make conscious choices as to where we want to go from
here. Maybe now is the time to right the wrongs that we have committed over the
years, to change our principles, our morals, our priorities and our beliefs.
Maybe now is the time for us to move away from separateness and move towards
Oneness. To move from me-focused to we-focused. Humans are very intelligent and
resourceful. We have accomplished much over the last several centuries. If we
simply believed we CAN change our world at this time and make it better, then
we CAN. It is all how we choose to think. When we change our thoughts about
what is happening around us, we will change our lives and the lives of everyone
who co-habits this planet with us. Are
we truly in a time of crisis or could it be the greatest opportunity we've had
in a long time?
As I leave you to ponder these
ideas I'd like to pass along the work of a highly talented songwriter who came
into my life to share a very powerful and important message. Liverpool-born
Carl Stedmond has been through his share of challenges, and yet he sings about
hope and love with conviction! He now lives in Pickering, Ontario and is hoping
to begin work on his second album shortly as well as publishing his first book.
I found his work moving and I hope you do too! This song is entitled 2012 and
it's from his first album Diary Of An Uneducated Man. View Carl Stedmond on You Tube
