3 Hidden Costs of Aging IT
Networks
Network refresh. . .I’ll give you a moment to stop cringing.
Better? Ok.
It’s something that most business leaders don’t want to think about, but needs to be considered when your network reaches the three year mark. A network refresh is an investment, there’s no doubt about that, but the cost of doing nothing and continuing to work on an aging network most likely has greater costs that you may not even realize.
Consider the fact that network components begin to deteriorate after 3 years. That means they require more maintenance than new equipment.

BYOD - What Is It?
An
acronym that’s been popping up in businesses recently, BYOD
stands for Bring Your Own Device. It’s becoming a hot topic
of late because more and more businesses are allowing
employees to bring in their own smartphones, notebooks,
tablets, etc. This trend can be attributed to the
development of cloud technology and smartphones,
specifically the iPhone, due to their ability to view and
share documents anywhere.

Get Real About the
Security of Employees' Tablets, Smartphones
used with permission
from the Cisco Small Business Resource Center
How
many iOS, Android, and other mobile devices are using your company
network?
Hint: The numbers are higher than you think.
"A client thought that they only had two or three iPad users on
their business network," says Clay Ostlund, senior systems engineer
at Marco, a Cisco Premier Certified Partner.
"When we polled the network with a Cisco Identify Services Engine
ISE, it showed there were 100 iPads active."
Welcome to the new work culture of bring-your-own-device (BYOD).

How to Use Field Codes in Microsoft Word 2010
Field codes are
one of Microsoft Word’s key elements, frequently used by
many users. If you have ever inserted a date or a page
number to a document, you have used a field code. Despite
their heavy use, many people are unaware of how they
actually work.
What is a Field Code?
A field code is “smart” text – when used, they can update
when needed. There are hundreds of various codes for various
purposes, one of the most common being the code for the
current date – 29at24-Ti1824 Pictu+-24. Any time the field
updates, the information within the field updates.

Why
You Need to Go Beyond the Basics
used with the permission from Symantec
Just
how quickly are enterprises adopting mobile applications?
Very, very quickly.

Are you interested in
information or transformation?
by Laura Steward Atchison, www.lauraatchison.com
I spend a lot of time reading business and life transformation books and regularly attend seminars with some of the top experts in their fields to increase my knowledge to improve my life and my business. At times, I leave those events on fire to make changes in my life and business but something happens when I get home or back to work. The daily realities seem to push all the insights learned to the background and just never seem to get put into action. Does this sound familiar?

Simple Data Protection
by Scott Graning,
Wood Networks

Businesses
everywhere are concerned with data protection, but sometimes
the simplest of measures are not taken to protect this
critical asset. One extremely dangerous security breach that
is not often talked about is also one of the easiest to
rectify - unlocked computers.
As our technicians
visit client locations we notice something quite
consistently - users tend to leave their computers unlocked
when away from their desks. This means all company data is
left unguarded and easily accessible. Anyone can view
emails, access files and confidential information, or even
change settings simply by sitting down at the desk.
