Greetings!
Happy New Year!
It is a new year and decade. 2009 was a great year for music. Two Milwaukee bands signed to great independent labels. Kings Go Forth was signed to David Byrne's Luaka Bop Records and recently, Jaill was signed to the legendary Sub Pop label, home to Nirvana, Blitzen Trapper and Fleet Foxes.
88Nine RadioMilwaukee debuted close to 200 new songs in 2009 and now we are asking you to choose your favorites. On January 15th, we will count down the top 100 songs of 2009 as voted by you. If you haven't voted yet, hurry on over to the website and do so.
We recently concluded our Meet The Need campaign which featured 50 great Milwaukee organizations in 50 days. Check out the recap over at the Unified Milwaukee blog.
Starting January 25th, 88Nine RadioMilwaukee will kick off the second year of 'Make Milwaukee'. Over the course of eight weeks, we will be asking the creative community to tell us what makes Milwaukee creative. We will be also be asking you to get involved in this creative endeavour.
We have some big plans for 2010, so stay tuned for more details.

Meet The Need: 50 Organizations, 50 Days
Our Meet The Need campaign has come to a close. We featured 50 great Milwaukee organizations in 50 days. Sometime this Spring, an idea for our Meet The Need
campaign came up: 50 organizations in 50 days. Something about "50 in
50" made me smile from ear to ear. Why? It might have been the huge
volume of coverage we could provide organizations that frequently don't
have much of a voice in our local media. It might have been the chance
to approach the idea of basic needs from a host of different angles and
perspectives . It might have been the sheer amount of elbow grease,
coordination, and late nights it would require to get it all done.
For awhile, we thought about scaling back - 25 in 25? 40 in 40?
Really? Not that 50 is a number with any special significance to the
number of non-profits serving basic and human needs in the city, but it
just sounds good. 50 in 50 has a real ring to it. Not a
terribly complicated motivation, but we did it. 50 organizations in 50
days. Check the blog - they're all there.

Voted Milwaukee's Best Acoustic Musician and Female Vocalist of 2009, Jeanna Salzer has been making an impact in the Milwaukee music scene. With her first single, "Take it All," which hit the airwaves this past fall, Salzer's rich voice has been compared to artists such as Fiona Apple and Feist. Her sound is infused with both jazz and pop flavors and her writing is honest and genuine. She and her band can be heard playing everywhere from jazz clubs to coffee houses.
