Think Fall:

Preparing for Autumn Seeding and Turf Renovation

We're not suggesting that you wish the summer away, but if your ailing lawn is in need of restoration or replacement - you need to prepare now to install by fall. If you're planning to reseed, add new grass varieties, repair drought damage or start a new lawn, take the next couple of months to plan ahead.

  1. Plan to aerate in early fall. Core aeration is most effective during mild temperatures when grass is growing steadily - and when you have weeds under control. Whether you're in do-it-yourself mode or you're hiring out the lawn work, aeration helps to decompress the soil and reduce thatch that strangles new grass growth.
  2. Thoroughly dethatch your lawn. Thatch is the combination of grass clippings, roots, and plant stems that build up, decompose and clog up your lawn over time. Dethatching can be done manually, with a leaf rake, or by using a power cutter/dethatcher. Either way, the goal is to remove debris and stir up the top layer of soil, allowing oxygenation and renewed growth. Remember, power dethatchers are heavy and hard to use properly, so it's best to hire a landscape maintenance expert to manage the task.
  3. Schedule soil testing and stabilization. While many homeowners choose to aerate and dethatch their own lawns, soil pH testing and stabilization is more complex. Considering hiring a horticultural expert to conduct soil testing and amend your property's soil for optimal turf growth. Different grass varieties have different pH preferences, and pH varies with region, climate and micro-organism activity. To properly address your soil's pH balance and overall stability, schedule a soil test with the Green Meadows team today. After examining test results, we'll recommend treatments to balance your soil and prepare your lawn for an autumn overhaul.

Enjoy the rest of your summer with these money-saving offers. To inquire about landscape design-build or to schedule a free, no-obligation consultation, call 201-337-5480 today!
