Comments from the Chairman

Candidate Training"Freedom is not something to be secured in any one moment in time.  We must struggle to preserve it every day.  Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction." - Pres. Ronald Reagan, 1983

"Freedom is not free."  Somebody paid for it; and as such, there is a debt that is owed.  We pay this debt by ensuring we safeguard and covet the freedoms and liberties that have been given to us.  We can and must do our part by doing all it takes to maintain our freedoms, given to us in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

We have spent the last two years working very diligently to put into elected office those individuals who will best serve our interests at the state and federal level.

When our federal legislators return to Washington, D.C. next week, we must be vigilant.  This will be a "Lame duck" session as many of the legislators who are returning have been voted out, but will continue to vote until Congress adjourns for the Christmas break.  It is during this time that the Democrats (who still retain control until January) will attempt to force as many bills through as humanly possible.  The Democrats also fully understand that once a bill is passed, it becomes a very difficult process to overturn, once Republicans assume control of the Congress in January.

In the upcoming Lame Duck session, the Democrats plan to push all of the following bills through Congress and into law:

-          The START Treaty  (with Russia on Strategic Nuclear Weapons)

-          The DREAM Act (Immigration/Amnesty)

-          Resolution of the issues regarding Extension of the Bush Tax Cuts

-          Overturning the "Don't Ask/Don't Tell Policy" regarding gays serving

             in the military

-           Extension of Unemployment Benefits

There are many new and exciting ways to monitor what bills our elected officials are voting on.  Internet websites  and newspapers provide numerous avenues to stay abreast of current bills.  Newly released Phone Apps are ideal for day-to-day tracking of each vote and understanding the bills that are pending in both the House and Senate.  Our monthly town hall meetings serve as a great opportunity to brush up on what is happening and also by just talking with your friends who are news junkies.

Once the Kansas Legislature goes into session, this info will be available on a daily/weekly basis on our local party website for tracking state-wide issues.

Stay informed and stay involved.

When Kansas Legislators return to Topeka for the swearing in ceremony on January 10th, what will the new 2011 legislature look like?  It really depends on your point of view.

On January 10th, 92 Republicans and 33 Democrats will take the oath of office.  The Kansas House took a definite shift to the right during the November Election.  Not only will Republicans outnumber the Democrats by almost three to one, but there appears to be enough conservative Republicans to constitute a majority.  The moderate Republicans, who supported the additional $200 million in spending and the 18% sales tax increase, won't find many like-minded peers among the new members, as the majority of the new Republican house members ran on very conservative platforms.

The conservative wave reached across the state.   All of the Democrat-appointed state-level offices have been filled by duly-elected Republicans. The four U.S. congressional seats and two U.S. senate seats in the state of Kansas are all Republican for the first time in over a decade.  In Leavenworth County, Jana Goodman won the seat previously held by Marti Crow, by defeating Nancy Bauder.  We came close to capturing all four of Leavenworth County's Representative seats.  Owen Donohoe will be returning to represent the 39th District and I will be returning to represent the 42nd.  It will be a pleasure to serve with Owen and Jana in the House.

The next order of business for House Republicans is choosing House leadership on December 6th.  Mike O'Neal is unopposed as House Speaker, and I'm glad that Mike will have the opportunity to be Speaker again.  He tried to keep all our Republicans on the same page during this last session but, because a few chose to align themselves with Governor Parkinson and his Democrat agenda, Mike's efforts were unsuccessful.  Now that Mike has what appears to be a Republican conservative majority in the House, we should be able to make some good things become reality.

Other leadership positions to be filled include Speaker Pro-tem, Majority Leader, Assistant Majority Leader, Caucus Chair and Whip.  There are several people seeking those positions, several good people.  I'm confident that we will end up with quality leaders in the House.  Leadership that will work well together and help us turn Kansas around by supporting policies that are family-friendly, economy energizers, and job growers.

What can we expect to see from the 2011 legislative session?  When the session begins on January 11th, legislators will be looking at a projected state deficit of 400 to 500 million dollars.  Kansas law demands that we balance our budget.  When looking at a deficit, there are only two ways to balance a budget.  One is to cut spending and the other is to raise taxes.  In this last legislative session, a coalition consisting of Democrats and a few Republicans increased spending and raised taxes.  Is there anyone out there that still believes this was the right thing to do?  Did the increase in sales taxes work to balance the budget?  The answer is a resounding NO.  We must cut spending, period.  When we have looked at every program funded or operated by the state, we will find those that have been counterproductive or that have outlived their usefulness.  Another possibility of finding additional revenue is to sell property owned by the state that is not being used.

When we finally reach the point where our budget is solvent, we must continue to look for areas where further adjustments can be made.  Any additional savings must be returned to the people of Kansas in the form of tax cuts.  Allowing people and businesses to keep more of their hard earned resources is the fuel that will energize our lagging economy.  Cutting taxes can actually stimulate the economy resulting in additional revenue for the state.  This won't be easy or painless, but we simply have to bite the bullet and get it done.  I am encouraged by the e-mails that I have seen from our newly elected representatives.  Many of them campaigned on a platform of fiscal responsibility.  They understand that we must cut spending and find ways to lower taxes.

There are other issues that legislators must address.

-          Passage of the Kansas Health Care Freedom Amendment is absolutely necessary.  I'm confident, if given the opportunity, Kansas voters will overwhelmingly support this amendment.  In Missouri voters approved their Health Care Freedom Amendment by over 70%.  Kansans will match that percentage.

-          We must make sure that only citizens are voting in our elections.  We must pass legislation requiring photo ID's for walk in voters and proof of citizenship when registering to vote.

-           There's also talk about changing the basic tax structure in Kansas.  We may be looking seriously at the Fair Tax system of taxation.  The Fair Tax is strictly a consumption tax.  If adopted it would eliminate over 30 taxes that are currently on the books.  How would you like to get a pay check and see that the state did not take any earnings taxes out of your pay?  This may be possible, if not this coming session, then perhaps the next.

With Governor Brownback at the helm, we will have the opportunity to do some things that were not possible during these past eight years.  During those years we have often heard the term, "Moving Kansas Forward".  Now we are in a position to actually make those words a reality.

I want to hear from you.  Remember to pray for our elected officials.  They have their work cut out for them.

In your service, Connie

I Worked in Detroit, Michigan

By Frosty Wooldridge

For 15 years, from the mid 1970's to 1990, I worked in Detroit, Michigan.  I watched it descend into the abyss of crime, debauchery, gun play, drugs, school truancy, car-jacking, gangs, and human depravity.  I watched entire city blocks burned out.  I watched graffiti explode on buildings, cars, trucks, buses, and school yards.   Trash everywhere!

Detroiters walked through it, tossed more into it, and ignored it.  Tens of thousands, and then hundreds of thousands today exist on federal welfare, free housing, and food stamps!

With Aid to Dependent Children, minority women birthed eight to 10, and in one case, one woman birthed 24 children as reported by the Detroit Free Press, all on American taxpayer dollars.

A new child meant a new car payment, new TV, and whatever mom wanted.  I saw Lyndon Baines Johnson's "Great Society" flourish in Detroit.  If you give money for doing nothing, you will get more hands out taking money for doing nothing.

Mayor Coleman Young, perhaps the most corrupt mayor in America, outside of Richard Daley in Chicago, rode Detroit down to its knees.   He set the benchmark for cronyism, incompetence, and arrogance.  As a black man, he said, "I am the MFIC."  The IC meant "in charge". You can figure out the rest.   Detroit became a majority black city with 67 percent African-Americans.

As a United Van Lines truck driver for my summer job from teaching math and science, I loaded hundreds of American families into my van for a new life in another city or state.

Detroit plummeted from 1.8 million citizens to 912,000 today.  At the same time, legal and illegal immigrants converged on the city, so much so, that Muslims number over 300,000.  Mexicans number 400,000 throughout Michigan, but most work in Detroit.  As the whites moved out, the Muslims moved in.

As the crimes became more violent, the whites fled.  Finally, unlawful Mexicans moved in at a torrid pace.   Detroit suffers so much shoplifting that grocery stores no longer operate in many inner city locations.  You could cut the racial tension in the air with a knife!

Detroit may be one of our best examples of multiculturalism: pure dislike, and total separation from America.

Today, you hear Muslim calls to worship over the city like a new American Baghdad with hundreds of Islamic mosques in Michigan, paid for by Saudi Arabia oil money.  High school flunk out rates reached 76 percent last June, according to NBC's Brian Williams.  Classrooms resemble more foreign countries than America.  English; Few speak it!  The city features a 50 percent illiteracy rate and growing. Unemployment hit 28.9 percent in 2009 as the auto industry vacated the city.  In this week's Time Magazine October 4, 2009, "The Tragedy of Detroit: How a great city fell, and how it can rise again," I choked on the writer's description of what happened.  "If Detroit had been ravaged by a hurricane, and submerged by a ravenous flood, we'd know a lot more about it," said Daniel Okrent.  "If drought and carelessness had spread brush fires across the city, we'd see it on the evening news every night.

Earthquake, tornadoes, you name it, if natural disaster had devastated the city that was once the living proof of American prosperity, the rest of the country might take notice.

But Detroit, once our fourth largest city, now 11th, and slipping rapidly, has had no such luck.  Its disaster has long been a slow unwinding that seemed to remove it from the rest of the country.  Even the death rattle that in the past year emanated from its signature industry brought more attention to the auto executives than to the people of the city, who had for so long been victimized by their dreadful decision making."

As Coleman Young's corruption brought the city to its knees, no amount of federal dollars could save the incredible payoffs, kick backs, and illegality permeating his administration.  I witnessed the city's death from the seat of my 18-wheeler tractor trailer because I moved people out of every sector of decaying Detroit.  "By any quantifiable standard, the city is on life support.   Detroit's treasury is $300 million short of the funds needed to provide the barest municipal services," Okrent said.  "The school system, which six years ago was compelled by the teachers' union to reject a philanthropist's offer of $200 million to build 15 small, independent charter high schools, is in receivership.  The murder rate is soaring, and 7 out of 10 remain unsolved.  Three years after Katrina devastated New Orleans, unemployment in that city hit a peak of 11%. In Detroit, the unemployment rate is 28.9%.

That's worth spelling out: twenty-eight point nine percent."  At the end of Okrent's report, and he will write a dozen more about Detroit , he said, "That's because the story of Detroit is not simply one of a great city's collapse, it's also about the erosion of the industries that helped build the country we know today.  The ultimate fate of Detroit will reveal much about the character of America in the 21st century.  If what was once the most prosperous manufacturing city in the nation has been brought to its knees, what does that say about our recent past?  And if it can't find a way to get up, what does that say about our future?"

As you read in my book review of Chris Steiner's book, "$20 Per Gallon", the auto industry won't come back.  Immigration will keep pouring more and more uneducated third world immigrants from the Middle East into Detroit, thus creating a beachhead for Islamic hegemony in America.  If 50 percent illiteracy continues, we will see more homegrown terrorists spawned out of the Muslim ghettos of Detroit.  Illiteracy plus Islam equals walking human bombs.

You have already seen it in Madrid, Spain; London, England, and Paris, France with train bombings, subway bombings and riots.  As their numbers grow, so will their power to enact their barbaric Sharia Law that negates republican forms of government, first amendment rights, and subjugates women to the lowest rungs on the human ladder.  We will see more honor killings by upset husbands, fathers, and brothers that demand subjugation by their daughters, sisters and wives.  Muslims prefer beheadings of women to scare the hell out of any other members of their sect from straying.  Multiculturalism: what a perfect method to kill our language, culture, country, and way of life.

I pray that everyone that reads this realizes that if we don't stand up, and scream at Washington, and our State, City and Local leaders, this is what awaits the rest of America.   If you follow the news at all, you know this has happened in England, France and Spain.

The Mount Vernon Statement

Constitutionan Conservatism:  A Statement fro the 21st Century

On February 17, 2010, at Collingswood Mansion, near George Washington's home at Mount Vernon, Virginia, some 80 conservative leaders gathered to sign the Mount Vernon Statement.  Reproduced in full below, the Mount Vernon Statement is an affirmation of republican self-government based on the rule of law expressed by the Founders in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.  If you believe  that recent expansions in the size and scope of government call for a revival of the principles of the Constituion, please consider joining the tens of thousands of other Americans who have signed the Mount Vernon Statement.  You can sign your name by visiting www.TheMountVernaonStatement.com.

We recommit ourselves to the ideas of the American Founding. Through the Constitution, the Founders created an enduring framework of limited government based on the rule of law. They sought to secure national independence, provide for economic opportunity, establish true religious liberty and maintain a flourishing society of republican self-government.

These principles define us as a country and inspire us as a people. They are responsible for a prosperous, just nation unlike any other in the world. They are our highest achievements, serving not only as powerful beacons to all who strive for freedom and seek self-government, but as warnings to tyrants and despots everywhere.

Each one of these founding ideas is presently under sustained attack. In recent decades, America's principles have been undermined and redefined in our culture, our universities and our politics. The selfevident truths of 1776 have been supplanted by the notion that no such truths exist. The federal government today ignores the limits of the Constitution, which is increasingly dismissed as obsolete and irrelevant.

Some insist that America must change, cast off the old and put on the new. But where would this lead -- forward or backward, up or down? Isn't this idea of change an empty promise or even a dangerous deception?

The change we urgently need, a change consistent with the American ideal, is not movement away from but toward our founding principles. At this important time, we need a restatement of Constitutional conservatism grounded in the priceless principle of ordered liberty articulated in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

The conservatism of the Declaration asserts self-evident truths based on the laws of nature and nature's God. It defends life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It traces authority to the consent of the governed. It recognizes man's self-interest but also his capacity for virtue.

The conservatism of the Constitution limits government's powers but ensures that government performs its proper job effectively. It refines popular will through the filter of representation. It provides checks and balances through the several branches of government and a federal republic.

A Constitutional conservatism unites all conservatives through the natural fusion provided by American principles. It reminds economic conservatives that morality is essential to limited government, social conservatives that unlimited government is a threat to moral self-government, and national security conservatives that energetic but responsible government is the key to America's safety and leadership role in the world.

A Constitutional conservatism based on first principles provides the framework for a consistent and meaningful policy agenda.

   ·  It applies the principle of limited government based on the rule of law to every proposal.

   ·  It honors the central place of individual liberty in American politics and life.

   ·  It encourages free enterprise, the individual entrepreneur, and economic reforms grounded in market solutions.

   ·  It supports America's national interest in advancing freedom and opposing tyranny in theworld and prudently considers what we can and should do to that end.

   ·  It informs conservatism's firm defense of family, neighborhood, community, and faith.

If we are to succeed in the critical political and policy battles ahead, we must be certain of our purpose.

We must begin by retaking and resolutely defending the high ground of America's founding principles.

A BLACK MAN, THE PROGRESSIVE'S PERFECT TROJAN HORSE
Lloyd Marcus

As millions of my fellow Americans, I am outraged, devastated and extremely angry by the democrat's unbelievable arrogance and disdain for We the People.  Despite our screaming "no" from the rooftops, they forced Obama-Care down our throats.  Please forgive me for using the following crude saying, but it is very appropriate to describe what has happened.   "Don't urinate on me and tell me it's raining."  Democrats say their mission is to give all Americans health care.  The democrats are lying.  Signing Obama-Care into law against our will and the Constitution is tyranny and step one of their hideous goal of having as many Americans as possible dependent on government, thus controlling our lives and fulfilling Obama's promise to fundamentally transform America.

I keep asking myself.   How did our government move so far from the normal procedures of getting things done?  Could a white President have so successfully pulled off shredding the Constitution to further his agenda?  I think not.

Ironically, proving America is completely the opposite of the evil racist country they relentlessly accuse her of being, progressives used America's goodness, guilt and sense of fair play against her.  In their quest to destroy America as we know it, progressives borrowed a brilliant scheme from Greek mythology. They offered America a modern day Trojan Horse, a beautifully crafted golden shiny new black man as a presidential candidate.  Democrat Joe Biden lorded Obama as the first clean and articulate African American candidate.  Democrat Harry Reid said Obama only uses a black dialect when he wants.

White America relished the opportunity to vote for a black man naively believing they would never suffer the pain of being called racist again.  Black Americans viewed casting their vote for Obama as the ultimate Affirmative Action for America's sins of the past.

Then there were the entitlement loser voters who said, "I'm voting for the black dude who promises to take from those rich SOBs and give to me."

Just as the deceived Trojans dragged the beautifully crafted Trojan Horse into Troy as a symbol of their victory, deceived Americans embraced the progressive's young, handsome, articulate and so called moderate black presidential candidate as a symbol of their liberation from accusation of being a racist nation.  Also like the Trojan Horse, Obama was filled with the enemy hiding inside.

Sunday, March 21, 2010, a secret door opened in Obama, the shiny golden black man.  A raging army of democrats charged out.  Without mercy, they began their vicious bloody slaughter of every value, freedom and institution we Americans hold dear; launching the end of America as we know it.

Wielding swords of votes reeking with the putrid odor of back door deals, the democrats landed a severe death blow to America and individual rights by passing Obama-Care.

The mainstream liberal media has been relentlessly badgering the Tea Party movement with accusations of racism.   Because I am a black tea party patriot, I am bombarded with interviewers asking me the same veiled question.  "Why are you siding with these white racists against America's first African American president?"  I defend my fellow patriots who are white stating, "The patriots do not give a hoot about Obama's skin color.  They simply love their country and oppose his radical agenda.  Obama's race is not the issue."

Recently, I have come to believe that perhaps I am wrong about Obama's race not being an issue.  In reality, Obama's presidency has everything to do with racism, but not from the Tea Party movement.  Progressives and Obama have exploited his race from the rookie senator's virtually unchallenged presidential campaign to his unprecedented bullying of America into Obama-Care.  Obama's race trumped all normal media scrutiny of him as a presidential candidate and most recently even the Constitution of the United States.  Obama-Care forces all Americans to purchase health care which is clearly unconstitutional.

No white President could get away with boldly and arrogantly thwarting the will of the American people and ignoring the laws.  President Clinton tried universal health care.  Bush tried social security reform.  The American people said "no" to both Presidents' proposals and it was the end of it.  So how can Obama get away with giving the American people the finger?  The answer:  He is black.

The mainstream liberal media continues to portray all who oppose Obama in any way as racist. Despite a list of failed policies, overreaches into the private sector, violations of the Constitution and planned destructive legislation too numerous to mention in this article, many Americans are still fearful of criticizing our first black president.  Incredible.

My fellow Americans, you must not continue to allow yourselves to be "played" and intimidated by Obama's race or the historical context of his presidency.  If we are to save America, the greatest nation on the planet, Obama's progressive agenda must be stopped.

An Anonymous Observation
"The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of
entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president."
