Political Signs
Election fever is upon us and we all want to do our part by putting out yard signs and banners.
The State recently standardized all city codes for time restrictions on when signs are allowed to be placed.
Signs can be put into residential areas 45 days prior to the election.
(September 18).
Sign regulations for the rual areas remain unchanged. |
VOTE YES on 1
November 2 A 1905 ruling from the Kansas Supreme Court interpreted Section 4 of the Kansas Constitution to mean that the Right to Keep and Bear Arms only exists as a collective right for those in the militia or military and no individual right exists. For that reason, the NRA has worked with the Kansas State Rifle Association, Senator Mike Petersen and the legislature, to pass a Constitutional Amendment during the 2009 legislative session, which provides new language that clarifies Section 4 and guarantees an individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms. The language reads: "A person has the right to keep and bear arms for the defense of self, family, home and state, for lawful hunting and recreational use, and for any other lawful purpose." Our elected officials have done law-abiding Kansans a tremendous service by passing this landmark Constitutional Amendment. Now it is up to YOU to do your part on November 2, 2010 and vote this provision into the Kansas Constitution. |
Judges--Election vs. Appointment
BALLOT QUESTION: "Shall the following be adopted? The present method of nonpartisan selection of judges of the district court in this judicial district by the governor upon nominations by a district nominating commission and subject to retention in office by a vote of the voters shall be discontinued and there is hereby adopted in this judicial district the election of judges of the district court by the voters. YES or NO."
Voters in Atchison and Leavenworth and Counties will have a chance to decide this question in the General Election to be held November 2. Kansas is comprised of 105 counties. One half of the counties (52/53) elect their judges. In an effort to put the people's voice back into the judicial system, the "Take Back Our Courts" group formed to promote a YES vote on the ballot question.
Under the current system in our district, a commission nominates candidates to fill a vacancy. The Governor then appoints one of the nominees to serve as a judge. Every four years the judge will appear on the ballot for a retention vote. In the entire history of Kansas, only One judge has ever been denied retention. The current method of appointment and retention until the mandatory age of retirement for our District Judges does not adhere to the One Person One Vote doctrine.
It's time to take back our courts

Running to the Finish Line
Less than 30 days until the General Election is here. The Victory Party has been booked for the evening of November 2 (Election Day) from 6-9:00 pm at the Riverfront Community Center. Now is not the time to let up in our efforts. It is time to put everything we have into the fight. Our candidates have plastered the countryside with signs as well as the cities within the county. They have knocked on doors getting their message out, putting in un-godly hours. They are in the fight to win. What are you doing to ensure they win? Are you doing all you can to effect the change we all want both in Washington and in Topeka? Our Party Headquarters is open 6 days a week through Election Day. The hours are 10:30 am until 5:30 pm. We are staffed with people to assist voters in everything from applying for an advanced ballot, to voter registration, to providing information and brochures on candidates. We also have a good supply of yard signs on all candidates for voters to pick up. The Party Headquarters is equipped with a phone bank system to allow volunteers to come in and assist with calling voters on all aspects of "Getting out the Vote" (GOTV). We welcome volunteers to come in and assist in manning the office, phone calling in support of candidates, helping candidates assemble information packets to be used when walking neighborhoods. Candidates are always looking for volunteers to assist them with walking neighborhoods and talking to voters. To volunteer, call the Party Headquarters at 913-772-VOTE (8683). We can inform you of all the ways to assist and can put you in contact with any of the candidates you would like to work with. Don't be left out of this historic turning point in our Nation's history. Make this election YOURS - Make it PERSONAL. The Candidates and the Party Leadership DO. |

Connie's Corner by: Rep. Connie O'Brien
This is it! October 4th is our last Town Hall before the November 2nd Election night "Watch Party". I have a few observations that I would like to share with you. Most of us remember 2008. What a disappointing year. We saw a new administration take control of Washington. President Obama had majorities in both the House and Senate. Reid and Pelosi were prominent names in Washington. In Kansas we saw the Lieutenant Governor sworn in as Governor. We listened as he delivered his State of the State address. His plans for Kansas included more spending and a proposed tax increase, (one that would become the second largest in Kansas history). When you think of it we shouldn't be surprised with what's happened in our country and in Kansas. Democrats control Washington and in Kansas we have a Democrat Governor, a Democrat Secretary of State, a Democrat Treasurer, and a Democrat Attorney General. All Appointed. Folks, things are changing; attitudes are changing. In 08 the Democrats had "Hope and Hype" working for them. The Obama charisma carried the day. But now, as Americans have witnessed the changes taking shape, many have lost hope and become disillusioned. The changes are not even close to what they envisioned. Takeovers, bailouts, and stimulus spending are not what we had in mind. The hopes people had, have given way to disillusionment and in some cases disgust or despair. They tell us that all politics are local, and normally that's true, but this year there is something brewing, something different. People are fed up with the tax and spend politics of Washington. They are fed up with bailouts. They are fed up with the democrat policies that seek to re-distribute their wealth. Here in Kansas many are fed up as well. We are fed up with the additional spending and tax increases. And all this has taken place, while most Americans and Kansans are experiencing difficult economic times. This year the winds of change are blowing in our direction. This year Republicans in Kansas will recapture all the statewide offices currently held by appointed Democrats. Keep in mind that every one of our candidates here in Leavenworth County will be facing a Democrat opponent. Yes, we are running against Democrats and their failed policies. My good friend Owen Donohoe is facing a Democrat who thinks the answer to our education problems is more money. The 26% increase in educational funding from 2005 to 2009 didn't produce any significant increase in test scores or graduation rates. (That was an increase in education spending of over one billion dollars.) His Democrat opponent is very simplistic. His solution for improving education is more money, more spending and higher taxes. I Don't Think So! What about the Democrat incumbent in the 40th District? She belongs to the party of failed policies. Just ask yourself, which state budget did she and the vast majority of her Democrat colleagues support? Was it one that balanced the budget without increasing taxes or one that would increase spending and necessitate a tax hike? Everyone knows the answer. Is this what the people of the 40th District want? I Don't Think So! The Democrat opponent running for the 41st District invited Governor Parkinson to come to Leavenworth and do a fundraiser for her campaign. What can the people of Leavenworth expect from that Democrat? What did they get from our Democrat Governor? More of the same tax and spend policies that have infected Washington. Is this what the people of the 41st District want? I Don't Think So! At a forum sponsored by the National Association of Retired Federal Employees my opponent said, if he had been the state representative for the 42nd District he would have supported the Democrat Governor's 18% sales tax increase. I know the people of the 42nd District. This isn't what they wanted and if given the opportunity I'll vote to repeal the Sales Tax increase. I haven't even touched on the social issue. The differences between Democrats and Republicans become even more evident when looking at important issues like the Second and Tenth Amendments, life and marriage. The top issue for the past two years and the issue demanding our immediate attention continue to be the faltering economy. What we need to do is downsize and do away with oppressive government regulations, reduce spending, lower taxes and allow businesses and taxpayers to keep more of their hard earned money. This is the policy that will fuel our economic engine and bring back jobs and prosperity to our state. I've said it before and I'll say it again. We cannot tax ourselves into prosperity. Who has the best policies for creating an environment where businesses and families can flourish? For the voters in this election cycle the choice is simple. Do they want to continue following the Washington style tax and spend politics of the Democrat Party, policies that are destroying America and the future of our children, or are they ready for CHANGE? |
GOTV: The Top Ten Reasons You Should Be Working On Getting Out The Vote
Four weeks from today. That's all. Four Weeks.
On November 2nd, there will be an electoral showdown with the forces of Freedom on one side, and the forces of Statism on the other. If this past weekend's Marxist March on the Mall didn't help draw a line in the sand for you, perhaps these other items might:
- Our nation is nearly $13.6 trillion in debt.
- You, your significant other, your children, your grandchildren owe nearly $44,000 each to the debt (for taxpayers alone, nearly $122,000 each)-right now.
- Unions have taken over two branches of the federal government, the Legislative and Executive branches-including the West Wing of the White House.
- Unions and union-bought Democrats are trying to take away your right to vote on unionization, your freedom to contract, and even your right to work.
- Union-bought Democrats have nationalized your healthcare
- Union-bought Democrats are trying to limit First Amendment Rights
- Union-backed Democrats have "reformed Wall St." by giving unions the keys to the board rooms
- You have bailed out banks, car companies and unions (see number #1 above)
- You are being asked to bail out union pensions
- They have completely unmasked themselves, and trashed a national park in protest
And, they're not finished yet...
Now, if none of those were reasons enough to start working on Getting Out the Vote (GOTV), here's another for you: GOTV for the Gipper...
So, if you've got the fortitude and the desire, here are some easy ways you can work to GOTV:
§Recruit your friends and family.
§Use the Power of Five to build a voting bloc.
§Volunteer for a campaign. Candidates will welcome your help in:
§ Walking a precinct
§ Making telephone calls
§ Helping to distribute yard signs
§Start coordinating your activities (person to person, group to group)
Above all, start now
Unions and their Marxist allies have been working and coordinating their GOTV efforts for months. They are spending hundreds of millions of dollars to "transform America" to this:
They've shown you their vision.
Now, it's up to you to make sure they don't win.
Get up, and Get Out the Vote.
There is one month left.

Salute the Danish Flag -- It's a Symbol of Western Freedom
(This could very well happen here on our Continent)
Susan MacAllen, a Canadian citizen, is a contributing editor for (FamilySecurityMatters.org)
In 1978-9 I was living and studying in Denmark. But in 1978 - even in Copenhagen, one didn't see Muslim immigrants.
The Danish population embraced visitors, celebrated the exotic, and went out of its way to protect each of its citizens. It was proud of its new brand of socialist liberalism one in development since the conservatives had lost power in 1929 - a system where no worker had to struggle to survive, where one ultimately could count upon the state as in, perhaps, no other western nation at the time. The rest of Europe saw the Scandinavians as free-thinking, progressive and infinitely generous in their welfare policies. Denmark boasted low crime rates, devotion to the environment, a superior educational system and a history of humanitarianism. Denmark was also most generous in its immigration policies - it offered the best welcome in Europe to the new immigrant: generous welfare payments from first arrival plus additional perks in transportation, housing and education. It was determined to set a world example for inclusiveness and multiculturalism. How could it have predicted that one day in 2005 a series of political cartoons in a newspaper would spark violence that would leave dozens dead in the streets - all because its commitment to multiculturalism would come back to bite? By the 1990's the growing urban Muslim population was obvious - and its unwillingness to integrate into Danish society was obvious. Years of immigrants had settled into Muslim-exclusive enclaves. As the Muslim leadership became more vocal about what they considered the decadence of Denmark's liberal way of life, the Danes - once so welcoming - began to feel slighted. Many Danes had begun to see Islam as incompatible with their long-standing values: belief in personal liberty and free speech, equality for women, tolerance for other ethnic groups, and a deep pride in Danish heritage and history.
An article by Daniel Pipes and Lars Hedegaard, in which they forecasted, accurately, that the growing immigrant problem in Denmark would explode. In the article they reported:
- Muslim immigrants constitute 5 percent of the population but consume upwards of 40 percent of the welfare spending.
- Muslims are only 4 percent of Denmark's 5.4 million people but make up a majority of the country's convicted rapists, an especially combustible issue given that practically all the female victims are non-Muslim. Similar, if lesser, disproportions are found in other crimes.
- Over time, as Muslim immigrants increase in numbers, they wish less to mix with the indigenous population. A recent survey finds that only 5 percent of young Muslim immigrants would readily marry a Dane.
- Forced marriages - promising a newborn daughter in Denmark to a male cousin in the home country, then compelling her to marry him, sometimes on pain of death - are one problem.
- Muslim leaders openly declare their goal of introducing Islamic law once Denmark's Muslim population grows large enough - a not-that-remote prospect. If present trends persist, one sociologist estimates, every third inhabitant of Denmark in 40 years will be Muslim.
- It is easy to understand why a growing number of Danes would feel that Muslim immigrants show little respect for Danish values and laws.
An example is the phenomenon common to other European countries and Canada: some Muslims in Denmark who opted to leave the Muslim faith have been murdered in the name of Islam, while others hide in fear for their lives. Jews are also threatened and harassed openly by Muslim leaders in Denmark, a country where once Christian citizens worked to smuggle out nearly all of their 7,000 Jews by night - before the Nazis could invade. I think of my Danish friend Elsa - who, as a teenager, had dreaded crossing the street to the bakery every morning under the eyes of occupying Nazi soldiers - and I wonder what she would say today. In 2001, Denmark elected the most conservative government in some 70 years - one that had some decidedly non-generous ideas about liberal unfettered immigration. Today, Denmark has the strictest immigration policies in Europe. (Its effort to protect itself has been met with accusations of 'racism' by liberal media across Europe - even as other governments struggle to right the social problems wrought by years of too-lax immigration.) If you wish to become Danish, you must attend three years of language classes. You must pass a test on Denmark's history, culture, and a Danish language test.
You must live in Denmark for 7 years before applying for citizenship.
You must demonstrate intent to work, and have a job waiting. If you wish to bring a spouse into Denmark, you must both be over 24 years of age, and you won't find it so easy anymore to move your friends and family to Denmark with you. You will not be allowed to build a mosque in Copenhagen. Although your children have a choice of some 30 Arabic culture and language schools in Denmark, they will be strongly encouraged to assimilate to Danish society in ways that past immigrants weren't. In 2006, the Danish minister for employment, Claus Hjort Frederiksen, spoke publicly of the burden of Muslim immigrants on the Danish welfare system, and it was horrifying: the government's welfare committee had calculated that if immigration from Third World countries were blocked, 75 percent of the cuts needed to sustain the huge welfare system in coming decades would be unnecessary. In other words, the welfare system, as it existed, was being exploited by immigrants to the point of eventually bankrupting the government. We are simply forced to adopt a new policy on immigration. The calculations of the welfare committee are terrifying and show how unsuccessful the integration of immigrants has been up to now, he said. A large thorn in the side of Denmark's imams is the Minister of Immigration and Integration, Rikke Hvilshoj. She makes no bones about the new policy toward immigration, 'The number of foreigners coming to the country makes a difference,' Hvilshoj says, 'There is an inverse correlation between how many come here and how well we can receive the foreigners that come.' And on Muslim immigrants needing to demonstrate a willingness to blend in, 'In my view, Denmark should be a country with room for different cultures and religions. Some values, however, are more important than others. We refuse to question democracy, equal rights, and freedom of speech.' Hvilshoj has paid a price for her show of backbone. Perhaps to test her resolve, the leading radical imam in Denmark, Ahmed Abdel Rahman Abu Laban, demanded that the government pay blood money to the family of a Muslim who was murdered in a suburb of Copenhagen, stating that the family's thirst for revenge could be thwarted for money. When Hvilshoj dismissed his demand, he argued that in Muslim culture the payment of retribution money was common, to which Hvilshoj replied that what is done in a Muslim country is not necessarily what is done in Denmark. The Muslim reply came soon after: her house was torched while she, her husband and children slept. All managed to escape unharmed, but she and her family were moved to a secret location and she and other ministers were assigned bodyguards for the first time - in a country where such murderous violence was once so scarce. Her government has slid to the right, and her borders have tightened. Many believe that what happens in the next decade will determine whether Denmark survives as a bastion of good living, humane thinking and social responsibility, or whether it becomes a nation at civil war with supporters of Sharia law. And meanwhile, Canadians clamor for stricter immigration policies, and demand an end to state welfare programs that allow many immigrants to live on the public dole. As we in Canada look at the enclaves of Muslims amongst us, and see those who enter our shores too easily, dare live on our taxes, yet refuse to embrace our culture, respect our traditions, participate in our legal system, obey our laws, speak our language, appreciate our history. We would do well to look to Denmark, and say a prayer for her future and for our own.

Putting Things in Perspective
"We the People" is the mantra of the people. The Party Platform is the voice of the Party in action. Politicians are instruments to be used to effect policy and change.
An Anonymous Observation "The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president."
