Greetings!

Welcome to the ISES Denver monthly newsletter (courtesy of the Communications committee!)   Please email newsletter@isesdenver.com  with ANY feedback, articles, news stories, job openings, or anything you feel would be interesting to fellow ISES members.
President's Corner:

Dawn AbbottIt is with great excitement and some sadness that I am coming into the final months of my term as President of ISES Denver.  It has been such a great experience and I have learned so much!  I am very excited with some of our accomplishments this year as well as all of the great feedback I have gotten this year. I am going to miss being this involved.  Please don't forget to say "Hey" and let me know if you have any feedback or ideas to make our chapter even stronger.  We have several not to be missed opportunities coming up that I really hope you take advantage of.

We are all so excited to announce that we have succeeded in raising awareness of ISES amongst the local college hospitality students.  We have about 25 new student members who are so eager to volunteer, work, intern and meet all of us currently making a living in the special events industry.  Please make a point to reach out to them and welcome them all.  Ya know they are the future of this industry.

Nominations for next year's board will be taking place over the next month or so.  If you have any interest in hearing more about board positions, what is involved, and if you think serving would be a good fit for you, please let me know as soon as possible, so we can chat about it.  I for one have gained so much both professionally and personally through my ISES service it is something I will be thankful for, for the rest of my life.

Lastly - don't FORGET to SUBMIT!!!  Please take advantage of your opportunity to submit your events for awards and apply to win scholarships to 2 of the best international conferences in the industry!

This will be a record for shortest President's letter - but just look at how chocked full this newsletter is with cool happenings!  Thanks for your support, membership, and volunteerism - without each & every one of you ISES Denver would not be the organization it is!!

Best,
Dawn Abbott

The Special Event Conference Scholarship Winners Recap

Michelle Gillette

First, I want to say "thank you" to ISES Denver for making a scholarship to attend The Special Event available to our members.  I am honored to be the one that was selected to attend the conference in January.  New Orleans is an amazing city and the conference was an invaluable experience for me on many levels.  I arrived early enough to participate in the leadership training for ISES and feel I got so many great ideas from other chapters and leaders of ISES that I could take with me and share with our local chapter.  Once the actual conference started I took full advantage of the amazing lectures and classes offered.  My two favorite classes were Sasha's class on Inspiration Boards and the class offered by The Wedding Summit on branding.  Of course, it wouldn't be a TSE show without the trade-show where I delighted in the latest and greatest in technology, decor and everything else related to putting on spectacular events.  It was a fantastic week filled with great camaraderie with fellow ISES members from all over the country, wonderful food and inspiring education and ideas that will help me as an ISES board member and a business owner. Thank you again for allowing me to attend!

Kate Kelly

Attending The Special Event Convention in New Orleans was a career changing experience.  As a member of The Denver ISES Chapter and active member in the community, I gained knowledge that will improve my career ambitions. I am a Catering Manager for a downtown hotel and am constantly searching for educational and networking opportunities.  Associations within my community and peers have assisted me with my aspirations, but attending The Special Event accelerated this process. I gained new marketing ideas, knowledge, and enthusiasm about new business to pursue.  The speakers for each program were very informative and creative.  They influenced me to better my career and become more involved in the community.  I also made several connections with other event professionals.  It was breathtaking to be in a room with so many people in the event industry.  I established relationships with contacts across that nation that I intend to maintain.  It was refreshing to meet people outside the Denver community.  I was able to talk about my venue and expand on what Denver has to offer. I left the convention stimulated, motivated, and ready to apply my finding to my career.  The Special Event was an experience that will assist me to achieve my career goals.  It was a life changing event that I am thankful to have had the opportunity to experience.  I strive to attend The Special Event for years to come.

What are the ISES Esprit Awards?

The ISES Esprit Awards program is designed to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts, performance, and outstanding contributions of ISES members in the special events planning.

ARE YOU A WINNER?

Why only be recognized by your local Chapter when you could be recognized an entire International Association?

The May 3, 2010 Deadline is Fast APPROACHING!

The 2010 ISES Esprit Awards competition will be conducted in a completely electronic format.  No more binders, printing, cutting, and gluing photos; this new online process is streamlined to recognize outstanding achievement and vision in the special events industry, to help develop global visibility and recognition and acknowledge commitment to the profession.

This year's competition is open to events that took place between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2009. Events that were conducted after December 31, 2009 may be entered in next year's competition.

The 2010 award ceremony is closer then you think, so whether you set the stage, present the food, design the invitation or create an experience...you have the ability to enter your best work into the ISES Esprit Awards. And it's never been easier with the new on-line submission process.  The prestige of the Esprit awards program relies solely on the high-caliber events and the dedicated and talented ISES event professionals that submit events for consideration. Being an ISES Esprit Award nominee or recipient will provide the distinct competitive advantage to sing your praises to customers, potential clients, vendors and colleagues, reminding them of your accomplishments and industry expertise!

We invite you to enter one or more of your events in the 2010 Esprit Awards. The ISES Esprit recipients will be awarded at ISES EventworldŽ-An Institute for Professional Development on August 7, 2010 in Baltimore, Maryland USA. For further 2010 ISES Esprit Information, click here.
